$3M per for scoring seven goals last year on second line. Nice work if you can get it.

Can't wait for people to eat crow on this contract when Kulemin has a good season again.
Yeah well we'll talk at the end of the season and see who's right.

The funny part is how this looks like more blue and white entitlement disease where it appears players are rewarded with raises for not performing. This entitlement was the thing that Burke was so gung ho about eliminating.

The reality is - that most fans don't get hockey doesn't exactly work like that because offers need to be competitive and there are other factors than goal scored. But from the optics do look poor hear and Burke comes off looking silly to some perhaps uninformed leaf fans and the media at large.

Actually, he will be earning just 250,000 more than last year this coming season. I suppose he should have taken a paycut.

You seem to forget that Kulemin's previous 2.350mil contract was a two year deal signed before the 10/11 season. He is not being given a raise based on last year's totals alone. He was given a raise based on his overall work ethic, defensive game and for scoring 30 goals 2 seasons ago. But it is not just those personal reasons and attributes that warranted a minor raise. The cap has gone up and as evident with some of the signings seen this off season, market value has gone up as well. 2.8mil for Kulemin is an excellent deal imo.

Go Leafs Go!

Or he had an incredible season, followed by a horrible season in which a personal tragedy happened, then he only got a "small" raise in salary.

Based on cap percentage, he did not receive a raise. Additionally, he may have received a far higher salary had they actually proceeded to arbitration.

Kulemin's just got to hit the net, take more shots and assert himself more on the ice (hitting, driving the net) and this contract is a steal. We already know he has the ability to play this way, he just lost a bit of confidence last year, but the work ethic was always present.

Still one of my favourite players in our current crop.

How quickly people forget that his last contract was for two years.

I remember last off-season people were worrying that he was going to get $4M+ if he had another 30G season. As it stands now, we were fortunate he had an off year as it will allow us to get ridiculous value from this contract. $2.8M gets you a 30-35pt forward these days.

I would also like to see him start on the third line next season.

If we have Lupul, Bozak, Kessel, Kadri, Grabovski, Van Reimsdyk in the top six, Kulemin could always fit on the third line LW with McClement and either Frattin or someone else if Frattin isn't ready by the time the season starts.
Let's hope they can upgrade the forwards if Kulemin struggles this year. Lupul, Kessel, Grabovski are the only legit top 6 forwards on the team. Van Riemsdyk seems like a logical inclusion, but no one else in the system fits there.
