So instead of coming out of a well, where does he make his appearance from?

Wellman signed 1 year, 800k with the Panthers. (2-way)

Such a late signing.

Why would he go to Europe if he likes playing in NA?

Honestly, I think the Preds are best without matching. Those picks aren't going to be as late as people seem to think. Off the top of my head, only two teams have made repeat trips to the cup finals since the lockout, and both of those were led by generational talents. Philly isn't that good. Only something like four teams have had multiple conference final appearances, and only around 2 of those have had 3 or more trips. This is all assuming Weber doesn't suffer from being away from Suter. I'd be surprised if more than one of the picks was upper twenties, and wouldn't be at all surprised if one was early teens or better. Maybe Nashville will be able to pick up some true offensive forward talent with one.

It's not optimal, but it's better than one more year of him and losing him for nothing.

If Giroux and Weber are what they are, then Philly will be in the conversation for quite some time. Anything can happen in the playoffs, so I wouldn't say those picks would automatically be 25+ but I wouldn't bet against it.

Giroux and Weber or Crosby and Malkin? The latter pair are each better than either of the former, but they've gotten a total of two picks 25+ in 7 years. (verify that number, I'm on my phone so working from memory) As I said, Philly should get a pick 25+ out of it, and maybe two, but more than that is beyond realistic. No matter how "real" those two are, NYR and PIT are still favorites over them in the east. The thing everyone seems to forget is all the losses this team has faced this year, and they haven't done anything to shore up goaltending, while their only d zone help came at a major top 6 forward cost when they've already lost two other top 6 forwards (assuming Weber costs them Vorachek).

I would doubt it's McDonagh, Stepan or Kreider going the other way, but I can't really think of another package that would work without any of them. Weird.
