Here it was a year ago I made offers for Clowe and got laughed off these boards by sharks fans. Barry Trotz said on the radio last offseason that out of any player in the league he'd want to coach on the Preds it would be Clowe.
Maybe I'm being a homer but I wouldn't do Wilson for Clowe straight up. Clowe, being 1 year from UFA status, must be considered a rental. As a rental, a 2nd line winger isn't worth a top young player on the verge of breakout. I'd rather roll the dice with Wilson. Too early to give up on him.
Petrecki has next to no trade value right now and Nashville won't trade two of its better young players for two guys with a year left until UFA, especially Wilson who (IMO) is about to break out with high end potential.
San Jose wouldn't do this either, as odd as that sounds after belittling it from the other point of view. Wilson is a premier young prospect but he doesn't bring this year what Clowe and Murray will do for the Sharks, so they won't make a trade. Remember, this is about trying to win a Cup in a fast-closing window.
On a team already bereft of nastiness, the Sharks can't afford to lose two NHLers with a reputation for keeping the other teams honest.
Clowe also gets perennially knocked by Sharks fans through the offseason, which never ceases to amaze me. Would I trade him in a bigger deal for a Nash type? Sure, yes. But his board play is so valuable to this team, his size and over the past 4 years he has averaged 20 goals and 30 assists (and 100 PIMS). Fans being critical of his skating need to remember the other assets he brings to this team - he's not a throw in for any deal, by any stretch.
Either way, this deal won't happen with each team's circumstances the way they are at the moment.
