Rutherford has had several discussions in past week with Semin's agent.

If Semin ends up in Carolina a lot of team will regret passing on him. I think he will succeed there.

Staal-Staal-Semin would be a heck of a line. Those are all big boys who can play them some hockey. Not to mention that those would be some great linemates for Jordan to work with while taking the next step in his game.

So Pittsburgh fired their entire medical staff.

Maybe they felt like the crew wasn't cutting it.

Anybody else worried that we traded Roy when his value was low because of injury and now that he's actually being taken care of (and might not even miss any games due to the potential lockout) could end up returning to 80 pt form? And we traded him for a 35 point energy guy?

I expect him to be around 70 points (around his career average). Even then, the trade made sense for Buffalo. It was time to move on from Derek Roy, low return or not.

Carolina has done nothing to improve their D. Yes, Staal will improve their PK and their scoring depth. But if Ward remains inconsistent (which, after a 8 year career for Ward, I think its safe to say he will) and their D can't stop anyone....they are, at best, a bubble playoff team. Adding Semin won't fix that. Yeah, he'll improve secondary scoring...buuuut, yeah. He isn't going to solve any of Carolina's BIG issues. It's like putting a band aid on a a gaping leg wound.

Jay McKee and Rory Fitzpatrick say "Hi!"

I see about 20 Hurricanes game a year, and agree. I'm also not sure I'd ice 11-12-Semin on the same line. I'd split the Staals and put one with Skinner.

We did trade him when his value was low, but I don't worry about it. Frankly I hope he plays to the best of his abilities for Dallas, it won't bother me none. The Sabres didn't trade from a position of strength but they made a move that most feel more or less had to be done at some point.

What I think is interesting here is that Darcy sold low on a player, something he rarely does. That is frankly comforting to me because it indicates the level to which he wanted Ott on this team and the level to which he was comfortable letting Roy go.

Frankly, I'm only worried about what the players that are still on the Sabres roster do. If Roy scores 100 points or 10 points, it won't make any difference on the Sabres' place in the standings. No one expects Ott to outscore Roy this season, whether Roy's healthy or not - including Regier and Ruff.

Yours is an excellent point, which I had not considered. I was in the "has to go" camp after the public media callout of Ruff, but didn't connect the dots you did. I don't like to read too much into things, but it could also be an indication of how tight DR & LR are on personnel decisions, and the influence LR has on DR (both of which I previously felt were often overintimated on this board).

Not worried at all. Just like when Satan left, he will score, but who cares.

If Roy goes on to be a top playoff performer, I would blame Lindy Ruff. But he didnt give us the clutch that briere and Drury did or toughness Peca did, so I have no feeling for Roy unless like I said he turns into this playoff beast.

I see people think Roy will regain his form. I dont really see it but again im bias against him and havent liked him from day one. Anyone thinking like i am and have a feeling that Ott may put up 50-60? I feel lindy is going to try to transition back to a run and gun with this mix of players and youth.

I think it'd take a perfect storm for Ott to get 50. I guess if he plays all season with Vanek and Hodgson, it's possible, but 60 I would say is out of his reach. 40ish points would be pretty nice depending on his role.

I'd take 30-40 points from ott, along with him annoying the hell out of everyone we play

Sure. If he plays with Vanek and Hodgson most of the season and only puts up 30 points then that's a disappointment. If he puts up 30-35 on the "third line" then it's all gravy.

The Staals are both centers, how would you "split" them if they were never going to be on the same line to begin with.

It would increase the distance for Pegs and R&R to go see Doan.
