Maybe even throw in Teddy Ruth

As to buying out Mason - is that still an option? I thought there was a window to do that.
Nope, there is a window, and it has passed. Mason is a Blue Jacket for at least this season unless he is traded or waived.

Undoubtedly true. But there's a lot of GMs out there, and sanity is not one of the job requirements.

This would be spending too much IMO. If we want to throw assets like that away for a different lottery ticket, we can do so more cost-effectively by calling up York and hoping he learned from last year. Let someone else pay premium prices for a prospect playing a mercurial position. Don't be the sucker.

(Also, Springfield needs its shutdown guys. )

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

They have Will Weber now. I would gladly give up Ruth in a deal for Bernier

Ruth alone might be reasonable. Still kind of enh.

I guess that, given Bernier's position in and value to the Kings, I'd automatically be suspicious and hesitant towards any deal for Bernier that they would find even marginally acceptable.

You must like Ruth a lot more than I do. Personally, I don't think he will ever see the NHL.

I expect him to vanish for a while and then reappear as a #7 defenseman somewhere unexpected, kind of like Aaron Rome.

It's never a good sign when the depth chart position compared to games played has these beauties

John Moore: #8 defenseman/1st in GP
Aaron Johnson #7 defenseman/3rd in GP

Ruth and a Conditional 2nd/3rd for Bernier? Fair value?

Maybe a 3rd...and in turns into a 2nd if Bernier plays let's say 40 games or something.

I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Maybe Ruth+2nd for Bernier+6th? 6th added simply because Howson seems to draft better players in the 6th than in the 2nd

Yea It doesn't seem like a bad deal for us either. Aside from Forbort and Andrew Campbell the Kings have almost zero defensive defenseman prospects. Lombardi also LOVES college grown guys so Ruth would be right up his alley.
