I am glad they retained him from an asset management standpoint. I thought he was a valuable penalty killer and, better yet, they can trade him for a pick at some point in the year.

As the previous poster said, good asset management move.

The Sens now have 13 forwards on 1-way deals (assuming Alfredsson returns), with Zibanejad, Silfverberg & Hoffman close to being NHL regulars. I still maintain that the Sens have 1 more move to make before the start of the season.

I like Daugavins attitude as a teammate, and he's an ok bottom six player, but really don't seem him lasting long-term. Anyone have a clue on how many players that gives the team for their roster? You'd think a trade has to be in the works to move some bodies out.

He does well on the PK.

Now that we have a legit Pker in Methot too our PK should improve.

I mean, he earned the contract I suppose but there's no room for him...

I'll even assume Alfy retires, but we are still very likely going to have Silfverberg and Zibanejad in our lineup this year. That gives us 14 forwards...

Silfverberg Spezza Michalek
Latendresse Turris Greening
Regin Smith Zibanejad
Condra O'brien Neil

Butler
Daugavins

Doesn't really make sense does it?

And all of them will play 82 games this year with no injuries. And guys like Regin/Latendresse (30 games in 2 years), Michalek, never gonna get injured....

Depth on every level is not a bad thing. Butler was money at the end of 10/11 and if he gets better he could be solid for us.

Yeah I see what you're saying, injuries do happen, but it's not like we don't have guys in the AHL who can fill those holes anyway (Hoffman, Stone, Prince, etc.).

Again, we are so far below the cap that it doesn't matter anyway and probably doesn't deserve discussion but it's summer after all!

Less room for Zibanejad, Hoffman, and maybe even Noesen to fight for in training camp. But I like K-Dawg.

This is true. Butler and K-daug have their respective talents, and they've fought through adversity. They're likely to have developed a professionalism that begets self-improvement and reliability.

K-daug can be a valuable primary PK'er. And he has more character than the Chinese alphabet.

Butler could still find his scoring touch after a humbling 2011-12 season. Hopefully he's in shape this fall.

Wait, you mean we are going to have ONE OF Silfverberg or Zibanejad in our lineup, right?

I am not sure they are gonna put Zibanejad in this year. I know Paulrus liked him and all, but it is just a hunch.

Even after JOB ad Daug, we are $2,991,667 below the floor.

Yeah I feel you lol. I find myself coming on here daily trying to discuss anything hockey and am running out of topics. I've already been warned for trolling otherwise I'd just go bananas on the Leafs board..

In all seriousness tho K-Daug is a good option because he's seasoned in the minors. Anyone else we bring up, for a bottom six role, will be either an important player for Bingo or will be in their first season and i'd rather have K-Daug then someone like Stone. Leave Stone in Bingo for a year and let him develop away from Bruce "Malkin to the Kings" Garrioch and his readers. Now for Top-6 players then a guy like Hoffman can come in handy but if Condra is injured and we are thinking of calling up Hoffman then we need to re-assess how we are going to kill penalties. This is where having a player like K-Daug is valuable.

I would love if he was tougher but w.e.

They are going to buy out alfredsson and then resign him to a one year 3 mil deal, obviously. ITS SO OBVIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Assuming Alfredsson retires, I think this team relies more on Butler than many here would like to admit.

I'll be the first to admit I haven't seen Zibanejad play since the start of this season so I could be completely wrong so I take my opinion on him with a grain of salt.

But Silfverberg I believe is a lock for the lineup, and yes I meant both of them would play (again, could be wrong about Z). I thought Z looked pretty good in the rookie games/preseason/regular season and I figured he'd be ready for the NHL at this point. Perhaps I'm mistaken?

If that's the case though we are in for a pretty brutal year...

Silfverberg Spezza Michalek
Latendresse Turris Greening
Regin Smith Butler
Condra O'brien Neil

That is one terrible offensive corpus IMO. And defensively...

Karlsson Methot
Gonchar Cowen
Phillips Boro

That's also pretty pathetic outside of Karlsson unless Cowen came make substantial improvements (which granted I am expecting). Gonchar and Phil are only going down from here IMO.

He's a good young player.

Right now he's a replaceable part, but in 3-4 years he could be one of those guys every team wants. A good PKer who can score.

Don't forget too - both Cowen ($425,000) and Latendresse ($750,000) have performance bonuses included in their cap hits which will only count against the cap floor should those bonuses be met - so the Sens could actually be $4,166,667 below the cap at this point (unless a 1 year CBA is agreed to) with this lineup (21 players):

Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Latendresse-Turris-Alfredsson
Regin-Z.Smith-Neil
Daugavins-O'Brien-Condra
Butler

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Phillips-Lundin

Anderson
Bishop

If they don't make the bonuses I think it gets added to next year's cap, doesn't it?
