I got to the theater at 11, met with some friends, and went inside...
Inside was crazy. There were 10 theatres showing the movie, and the lines for everything were insane. Luckily, when we got to the theatre we found enough seats together... If we had came in 2 minutes later we'd probably have to sit separately all the way in the front row. And it was still only 11:15.

Great movie though. I only got 3-4 trailers.

I'm still glad I went though. I've been in Texas for the last 2 years, so I saw a ton of old friends I haven't seen in years... Plenty of them, not including the ones I went to the movie with.

It's the most imax footage shot for a studio movie ever. 73 mins worth.

Going for those midnight showings is such a bad call. Never a good experience overall.

I normally wouldn't do the midnight showing, but I did it for Dark Knight, and Batman Begins I actually saw 2 weeks before release, so I wanted to complete the trilogy. I'm just too old to deal with movie theaters. Instead of spending $12 on a ticket and $5 on gas to go, I'll just wait and get the Blu-Ray for $15 and watch it at home so I don't have to deal with the *******s that won't shut up, and the dumb ***** that shine their phone all over the place during the movie.

Now I'm lucky enough to have a nice new Regal with Imax (ghetto version) in my neighborhood, but I always go on Sunday night. So much quieter.

So then we get in the theater, and the 20 minutes of commercials before don't start until 10 of. Then 20 minutes of trailers. Then the 3 hour movie. Then they wouldn't let us out right away for "traffic controls" then it took me 20 minutes to get out of the parking lot. I didn't get home until 4:15. People complain about how long baseball games are, but I was at the movie theater more than 5 hours to see that movie. It's just a miserable ****ing experience to see a movie these days.
I prefer waiting a few months and just buying the blu-ray and watch on my 60" plasma. I get to sit in my favorite seat. Don't have to wait through trailers. Don't deal with any traffic unless I have to side step something on the floor on the way to the door after amazon delivers it. And can watch it as many times as I want.

I prefer to rent rather than buy because I hate clutter, but yeah. Rarely choose theaters over home anymore. Our local theater has couches and serves food, beer, and wine and is not a big multiplex. So when we do go out to the movies, that's typically where we go.

I admit I used to absolutely love going to premier night (never the whole midnight showing stuff) for movies and going to them in general. The last movie I saw was Thor and that had all ready been in the theater for a few weeks.

I have a 124 inch home theater screen, yet I still prefer to go to the movies....for borderline movies, sure I watch at home, but overall I prefer to go to the theater. Mine isn't overcrowded and is new, so it's a great experience....

I think I'll see it mid-week, hopefully it won't be too crowded.

You gotta love the media, they don't even try to hide the biases.

They Google search James Holmes, see Colorado TPP has a member by the name Jim Holmes, assume that Jim is indeed a James instead of a Jimmy, then without anymore research, say that James Holmes that shot up movie theater is the same same one part of Colorado TPP.

Logical step for me would be going the projector route but I'd rather update my front speakers. Had my eye on some definitive techs for a while.

This is pretty cool. Like 10 years ago my uncle gave me this set of hockey cards from 1991...I hadn't seen it in years and forgot about it, but I just found it cleaning something out.

I think they're all still there:

Apparently it was necessary to include two "top prospect" Reggie Savage cards.

NCAA comes down hard on PSU Football....

-60 Mil fine
-5 years probation
-4 year bowl ban
-reduction of scholarships from 25 to 15
-vacate wins from '98 to '11

.....but the NCAA doesn't come down hard enough, IMO.

Letting the recruits leave without having to sit out a season was a good measure that should pretty much level the program for the next four years. If they leave...of course.

Agreed. Schools like SMU and NW (or SW) Louisiana get the death penalties for recruiting issues...but Penn State is allowed to keep playing football. Money talks. I'm hearing the PS trustees still intend to fight this. That sick culture up there just doesn't get it.

Meh. I think this is as bad (or worse) as the death penalty. It'll have longer-lasting effects than 1 year.

Only being able to sign 15 recruits per class is massive. Same with having a 65 scholarship limit (down from 85). Having almost 25% fewer total scholarships than everyone they play is going to kill their competitiveness several years past the 4 with the penalties. Not to mention, the negative stigma and bowl ban is going to make it extremely difficult to even get much quality with those 15 scholarships.

The problem with the death penalty is the other schools and TV contracts. At this late stage, it'd be very tough for anyone to schedule a decent replacement.

Penn State football lost its relevance for probably the next 10 years.

The QB that took the snaps in the last Penn State win that actually happened? Mike McQueary.

NCAA comes down soft on PSU Football....

No TV ban?
$60M fine - a laughable amount. Look at their coffers, tuition fees and TV Revenue.
Vacating wins from Joe after his death serves no purpose
Only lost less than half their scholarships.

What a joke. The bigger the institution harboring pedophiles the lighter the penalty it seems. Did anyone from the CC ever serve a day in jail? It's mind boggling. I can only imagine the penalties imposed if it was Maryland. Len Bias harming himself doing coke, Gary watching the players practicing, the horrors of College Park were penalized far too severely.

I don't think it's soft at all--especially when you consider that it's not really in the NCAA's mandate to punish crimes that are unrelated to amateurism/competitiveness issues.

They'll suck for a minimum of 7 years due to the bowl ban and scholarship losses.

And there will be additional sanctions coming from the conference, as well as a boat load of civil suits that they'll lose. Don't be surprised if the Big Ten (or whatever the hell its called now) takes a massive piece of PSU's share of the TV contract.

$60M is only the tip of the iceberg of money the university will lose because of this.
