I have never bought this reasoning at all.

Ya know guys and gals, all of the Financial info that's out there for all to read about is fun and we all like to speculate , but nobody truly knows what the financial state of the Preds operations are but the owners and Poile. I get a kick out of all these media outlets that act like their Bankers and Lawyers...

Agreed. That is where they screwed up. They can't talk about how they are going to spend more to compete and will do whatever it takes to keep their stars and then go and play hardball. If they weren't interested in handing him such a deal then they needed to embrace that they are a small market team and traded him and Suter for NHL ready pieces. This was the situation they needed to avoid.

Are there any Top 6 wingers, besides Doan and Semin, available? We'd need one if Voracek was traded. That's a really, really uncomfortable hit to the forward depth.

Hartnell - Giroux - Briere
Simmonds - Schenn - Read

Ehhh, not a fan.

i like semin...he still could be a good scorer...want cost as much and if you put him on with giroux...he could become a strong force on that line...

the defense combined for what 26 goals last year? Weber scored 19 himself. If the Flyers need to trade Jake in order to get Weber you do it. IMO.

If we get Weber and have to trade Jake, I say give Semin a 2 year deal. With Weber, Hartsy, Giroux and Talbot, we have enough leaders if Semin wants to act up.

Yes, I would love to have that stacked D for the season. That would be 3 monster pairings but you also have to consider how you keep everyone happy. No matter how you roll the 3 pairings their is going to be 1 or 2 guys not getting the minutes they want. Plus, that is a lot of salary tied up in your D. I think Mez is just the most logical. Coburn recently signed, Kimo NTC, Grossman recently signed, Schenn, Weber.

it is reasonable to believe our young talent will be netting a few more this season...

It won't only be his goals....in general he's going to provide a lot more offensive productivity quarterbacking the D corps. His massive shot if saved is going to produce a lot of second chances for the forwards. Garbage goals a plenty for Simmonds and Hartnell if they continue to drive the net...even Schenn.

Having said this losing Jake will be felt..our wings will not have enough depth although I think the hole will be temporary. Also maybe somebody in camp suprises...always at least one player..as long as it's not a D man which would be ironic.

With some actual shots on net from Weber yeah definitely...like I said more garbage to collect. Simmonds might be able to repeat his goal production and Schenn and Couts should improve. I suspect Read will stay the same and pot 20...

oh I agree. I would have to think the Flyers will have to do something and I think they will if they get Weber. i think that likely means Doan or maybe Semin.
They would be out of recources to go after Ryan or Nash I would think.

I don't understand why so many people are talking about a trade with Nashville still..... Don't you think the trade talks kind of ended when holmgren decided an offer sheet was the way to go? I have a feeling he is just going to play hardball. If preds choose not to match I would hope homer keeps jake and trades mez for a pick for some cap room.

Definitely not comfortable with trading Voracek. Losing JVR and Voracek would badly hurt the winger situation on this team, regardless of the D coming back.

Would prefer to find another way.
