Kaspars Daugavins in OTT has settled for 1 year deal.
I'd read previously that the sticking point between Ottawa and Daugavins was whether or not it should be a 1 or 2 way deal. Obviously they came to an agreement.

Good value. He's a useful bottom six guy.

Right on, the Ghost Daug is coming back.

And a very fair deal, he probably could have gotten more, but took less to get a one-way deal.

Although I like him... and I like depth.. there's beginning to be a serious log jam in our bottom 6 forwards and there's some young guns that should be pushing for spots as well.

Sounds more like a sign and trade situation to me.

The one-way contract was the reason why they were heading to arbitration so why settle if you just give in to what he wanted and got nothing in return?

We don't really need him as we have too many bottom grinders. Something minor is in the works if you ask me.

Thought he was going back to Latvia. Little surprised by this signing. Would rather leave that spot open for a prospect. Whatever.

I don't get this being a one-way deal. Seems like we have better bottom 6 options/prospects who will be pushing for a spot.

...and people are still upset we got rid of another bottom-6 player in Foligno for a D.

His first season was last year, that to me is still a prospect. He is just like any of the other bottom sixers in the pipeline, only he is a few years older, thus is ready. Don't really see which prospect would push him off of the fourth line.

I like this signing.... Gives some of the younger guys an extra year in the AHL so that they don't have to be rushed, while Daugs can contribute in the bottom six.
