yawn...

they got rid of 2 quality players that were dividing the lockerroom.

they didn't get rid of 11 million in cap space to add a 5.6 cap goaltender... the stupidity of that argument will never cease to amaze me.

Yes, they had to create SOME cap room to sign Bryz... (even though they could've done it without trading anyone... let alone those 2 guys).

The fact that they traded Carter AND Richards SHOWS beyond any reasonable doubt that they were making a culture/lockerroom change MORE THEN ANYTHING. Because they could've easily traded ONE of them, and had the cap space for Bryz (Carter 5.2 = Bryz 5.6)

Everytime someone says they traded Carter AND Richards to make room for Bryz, they are either being intentional ignorant, or can't do basic math.

... "uh... the owner asked me to improve the goaltending situation... so after trading away my depth at center/goal scoring (carter), i uh... you know... also went and uh traded the team captain...because, uh... i needed cap space to sign a 39 yr old winger...."

you don't trade the captain... to create cap space you dont even need... it's clear as day, those 2 were traded for far more reason then cap space/goaltending

I remember that time Miller won a cup.

Bryz was also the runner-up to Miller in Vezina voting that year.

And rightfully so. Miller had the highest QS % and (I think, if I'm remembering correctly) the highest sv % in the league that year.
Also, it's pretty obvious PHX's system inflates goalie stats. Look at Mike Smith before and after going there, and ditto for Bryz.

There's the Eastern Conference arms race I was talking about. I wouldn't be surprised to see Boston/Pittsburgh next up on the "big moves" front, either for Ryan or Yandle.

Our long, international nightmare is over.

Really curious to see what the price is.

Dubinsky, prospect (Miller?), pick, plus maybe another roster player (Boyle, Anisimov?). I really don't know.

Dreger just tweeted "multiple NYR players are involved"

Dubinsky seems like a given.

Boyle or Anisimov? Maybe.

Would Columbus have held out for Del Zotto or McDonagh?

I really don't see the need for MDZ with Johnson/Wiz, and McDonaugh is more valuable than Nash right now. Either the Rangers got spooked by the Weber deal and finally moved Krieder/Stepan, or Howson finally just said **** it, this is the best I'm getting.

My beef with Holmgren's moves last summer is, has, and will always be that I think it created an odd roster for a team purporting to be Cup contenders. Philly was built to win now. They had Chris Pronger (37), Kimmo Timonen (37), and Danny Briere (34) on their roster when they made those moves. Richards and Carter would've helped them more this past season than Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, and Couturier (great rookie season notwithstanding), all of whom are solid young players, but won't give you what Richards/Carter can. You could probably say the same for next year, as well, and possibly even another season. These moves may pay off beyond that point, but what consolation is that going to be for Timonen, who may be retired by then? Or Briere, whose torrid playoff pace may be waning by that point?

For me, the only thing that makes those deals anything short of an unmitigated short-term disaster is that they got Couturier at #8, thanks to the idiocy of teams drafting in front of them.

And Bryz's backup had a SV% eight points higher than him that year. You know, the Great Jason LaBarbera. If you take all his starts outside of the Phoenix bubble, he's a sub-.910 goaltender.

It will be very interesting to see what Jackets get back.

It may increase my desire for Regier to shop Vanek.

Rangers win this deal if it doesn't include Stepan, Kreider or Hagelin.

I'm told Rick Nash trade to NYR is done pending trade call. Stepan not included.
Well, there is one guy off the potential Jacket list....

Take away his Phoenix starts? So you're left with all of 67 games he played in? Uhh...OK?

His stats were nearly identical to Miller's this past season.

I figured Nash would be a NYR.....the worst part is, depending on who gets sent back, they still have a TON of capspace.

Bryz played in Anaheim before Phoenix. He's made 136 non-Coyotes starts. Sub-.910 goaltender when not playing for the 'Yotes. Facts.

Also, I don't think Bryz and Miller had "nearly identical" numbers last year. .916 =/= .909. By your logic, Ryan Miller had "nearly identical" numbers to Pekka Rinne (.923).

(Please don't tell me you were including GAA, one of the dumbest stats in sports, in your statement. Surely you know that's driven by shots faced, and SV% is a much better indicator of goaltender performance.)
