TSN has Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon and 1st to #CBJ. Told #CBJ are sending a 3rd-round pick and a minor-league defenseman to the Rangers.

Down Goes Brown ?@DownGoesBrown
Rick Nash, who is past his prime and wildly overpaid on a longterm deal, is now a New York Ranger. So, enjoy him in a few years, Habs fans.

NYR overpaid but not significantly.

Honestly, Voracek + Meszaros + Gustafsson + 1st is a close-value package to what NY gave up.

A lot of spare parts for a 1st liner; Columbus is a disaster.

Our defense is already significantly better than it was in the playoffs. NOTE: Added Schenn + healthy Grossmann + healthy Meszaros. Add Weber to that mix, and we're more than golden.

I'd like to see us just stand pat, sign Doan, and trade Meszaros only should the cap be rolled back 4-5 million. We can afford it honestly.

I wouldn't consider Dubinsky or a 1st (even if it's a late one) spare parts, but yeah bad trade and Howsen is horrible.

if both options fail, this team is in serious trouble.

If we don't land Weber then I'd say we're in serious trouble as far as contending next season and the survivability of our defense long-term.

Dubinsky's a 40 point guy who can kill penalties; dime a dozen type player.

I don't put much stock in draft picks, especially if it's a pick outside the top 5. There are only a couple 'sure things' in most drafts; the rest of the draft class is pretty much a crap shoot.

Dubinsky's the epitome of a third liner. As far as depth forwards and bottom six guys go he's near the top of the list. So I can see why you would call him a dime a dozen, but I don't really see it that way personally.

Hasn't it been proven that the majority of successful draft picks come in the first two rounds?

The panic-attacks people are having about are defense without Weber are pretty nuts.

Our defensive forwards were too young to handle the forecheck that NJ threw at them and our defense was hobbled to the point where it was:

Coburn - one of Grossmann's legs
old-man Timonen - WTF CARLE!?!?!??!
Gustafsson - Lilja

Now it is:

Coburn - Grossmann
old-man Timonen - Schenn
Meszaros - Lilja/Gervais/Gustafsson/Bourdon/Manning

That's infinitely better.

Absolutely. The majority of NHL regulars come out of the first two rounds.

That doesn't mean those players are top talents, though. Nor does it guarantee that players drafted in the first two rounds will pan out.

why cant you see that this team is not good enough? they couldnt beat the rangers last year, what makes you think they can beat them now? nash went to the rangers how is that not a big deal?

I wouldn't say infinitely. Timonen's a year older and all we did was exchange Carle for Schenn (a lateral move at best considering Schenn's really down season and his low offensive output), restart with a healthy Grossmann (God knows if he'll be healthy come playoff time) and Meszaros instead of Lilja. Having a healthy Grossmann, for now, is nice all as well as adding Meszaros, but I wouldn't call that infinitely better considering Timonen's aging and the Carle-Schenn exchange.

I think the big concerns are that our only number one d-man is aging a lot, we have no real offensive force on the defensive side of things except from maybe Timonen who is far from elite offensively, and we have no high quality prospects in the pipeline to replace Timonen and anyone we lose via free agency (like we did with Carle). Weber fixes all those problems.

They're the best talents available though which likely means top end talent and there's a higher likelihood then the rest of the draft, especially with first rounders. You see my point don't you?

We couldn't beat the Rangers who couldn't beat the Devils who couldn't beat the Penguins who couldn't beat us who couldn't beat the Rangers.

(And the Islanders just watched.)
