Nuanced yes.

It's a trade that needs to get done. We needed the top line talent. Rick Nash is a premier player.

It hurts our depth, of course. Arty and Dubi were both homegrown players and have a lot of potential. I like the deal better in the offseason, though, when we can make a free agent signing.

How can you not like it?
Unless you believe Erixon is a future star (I do not), we got the best player BY FAR in the deal.

We all have soft spots for Dubi and AA as they are home grown, but they are far from irreplaceable.

I didn't want anything to do with this guy with the projected cost of him, but this was a lottttt better than I expected Howson to take. Going to miss Dubi, and a shame to have not really seen Anisimov start out, but the improvements and change of scenery are good for both parties. Glad AA and Dubi are staying together at least. Dubi always looked out for Anisimov. Best of luck to both of them.

Just not happy with Anisimov being part of the deal. Who do we play on our 3rd line? We need to add a center now. Or will a rookie take AA's place? Yogan, Fogarty, St. Croix, Miller... Risky.

Best trade since the Gomez for McD trade, hands down. Incredible job by Sather. It's nothing short of mind blowing to see how much Sather has changed over the years. Just a terrific job.

With a possible top 6 of:

Nash - Richards - Callahan
Kreider - Stepan - Gaborik

Just looks scary.

Im guessing 4 Blue Jackets found this thread....4 people that dont like this trade.

This is an AWSOME trade! I was absolutely sure we would have to let go of some top prospects like Kreider, MDZ or both of them. But this is such a steal!

Yes...2 scoring lines....count them....1 and 2. I love this so much. With Hank in goal and all those top defensive prospects!

I love the trade but am concerned about the loss of Dubi because he was a core player. His teammates loved him, he will be missed but it is a trade you have to make every time.

So when healthy we can go:
Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Hagelin-Boyle-Pyatt
Asham-Halpern-Rupp

Does that look right or am I forgetting someone?

Meh.

Good news - they didn't give up assets I was adamant about not giving up. Dubinsky's cap hit was too high. Anisimov looks like he may turn out to be another Dubinsky. Hopefully the draft pick will be a high one.

Bad news - I don't think Rick Nash is going to change us all that much. A 30-30 guy with a lot of miles on him for his age and almost no playoff experience. Not expecting him to make us an offensive dynamo all of a sudden...hopefully he surprises me.

You have to like this trade on a pure talent sense as Dubi was not playing up to his contract, Anisimov is off and on and seems to be ok with being mediocre, and Erixon was not going to break our top 4. The draft pick will be at the bottom of the first round.

Rangers got a top line player while only giving up 2 roster players, neither of which was a top 6 forward or top 4 defensemen, and held onto all of their top forward prospects. Massive win for the Rangers.
