It's obvious Babcock reads our board. Lebda in the line-up.

G-Raps Press and Detroit News say Lebda will be paired with Kronwall tonite. Babcock is really rolling the dice here....a lot of inexperience (and speed and skill). Glad to see Lebda in there though. My advice to him....keep it simple.

ROCK ON!

He made the smart choice. Woolley is a coward and Cross is a pylon.

MY WORK HAS PAID OFF!!!!!!!

That's a pretty small third pairing, but given the alternative, it's the best one we could hope for.

Lebda did play pretty well paired with Schneider earlier in the year. I think Schneider pinching all the time forced Lebda to stay back and take care of business. Might be worth trying again....that would certainly make the third pair look a lot better with Kronwall and Chelios.

Given that the Oil is a really fast team, it makes sense to go with Lebda. Cross has gotta be a bundle of nerves though, eh? He was not happy with the way things ended in Edmonton, and you just know he will get more attention from their press than is warranted for a 6th or 7th D man.

Congratz to Lebda

Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that he would play in the playoffs, not me!

I like the idea of Lebda playing. I'm not so sure about pairing him with Kronwall.

We'll see how it goes. They'll have to play paper-rock-scissors to see who gets to get caught jumping up.

I was thinking of posting the exact same thing.

Against the Oilers speed I think it's great to put together two defensemen who can skate. Lebda is one of the fastest on the team, and Kronwall hauls for someone who just came back from ACL surgery.

What the heck is this?

Out of nowhere he decides to insert him for the playoffs, why hasn't he been playing him in the show leading up? I was sure Cross or Woolley would get the call.... yes sarcastro, I'm disappointed.

I would disagree with that point DJ, yes he's fast, but Lebda's speed doesn't combat the Oilers oncoming speed, because he is not a fast backwards skater and is often beaten to the outside.

Edit: a/w don't want to harp on this too much, I don't anticipate he'll be seeing much ice tonight or throughout the playoffs and I want to stay positive.

They sent him down because they were strapped for cap space and someone had to go, and he could. Now it appears as though Babs was listening after all. Either that, or he's had his eyes open while he's been coaching this season. Can't be sure which.

It was definitely a cap space issue. That's why we went with short rosters for the last handful of games. If we had cap room then we would have called up more than 1 player at a time from GRaps.

If the Wings play a team that is bigger and slower than Edmonton, Cross could still come in handy. And injuries are always possible too. Plus he's still better than Woolley. And it was a 4th round pick. No biggie.
