Pardon my ignorance, but why doesn't Cedrick Desjardins qualify for prospect? He seems to be the only goalie that has a chance to make it, but doesn't show up in the ranking. Any reasons? And where would he rank if he was there?

I'd love to see our ranks side-by-side with Timmins' rankings.

He's pretty old. To put it in perspective, he was born the same year as Andrei Kostitsyn.

I don't think Andrei was ever born, one day he just "was".

There use to be a thread where Grant posted Timmins' list (top 10? 15? I don't remember) but it disappeared and was never heard of anymore.

he sucks and that would have been like including Alex Henry in our list of top prospects a few years ago.

He's a bit old perhaps, but "sucks"? That sounds like either a very biased, egregiously exaggerated, or very much uninformed opinion.

It's not like he could be a first goalie or even a journeyman goalie one day.

After all he's 27(If I recall good.)

Every team is like this. We have a good pool, better than usual, but the reality is that very few players after 13-15 will make any serious changes in the NHL. Where we are right now, we're talking about borderline AHLers.

He turns 27 at the end of September, I believe. But why don't you think he could ever become one of those? Rolosson didn't even get to platoon as a pseudo-1A/1B until his 30s, but few would deny that he was a #1 goalie at one point. Same goes for Ty Conklin (except for the "clear" #1 part, but certainly a somewhat desired journeyman at least, and the age they started getting more serious responsibilities), to cite another example. I think Desjardins has more talent than those guys showed by the same age, reeeeeally wants (or wanted, at least) to be part of this team, and comes with similar pedigree when it comes to recognition as the best goalie at whichever level they were at before cracking the NHL somewhat full time.

I'm pretty sure he's gonne reach his potential as a serviceable NHL backup.

You could be right. But then again, just how many zeros are you willing to put in that bet, and how much do you think that will be determined by situation rather than skill?
