Good day's work for Sather. Made a trade for a great player without giving up a great player, and got another GM fired all in one afternoon!

Howson is inarguably the worst GM in hockey. I don't understand how a guy can lobby and reject deals and hold out this long... and wind up with this trade. Mind-boggling. I thought for sure you'd have to give up something like Hagelin and MDZ. Your core is completely intact and now much stronger.

****.
I can imagine how you feel. Most people knew it would end like this. You lose the best player in the deal. But Duby will be a fan favorite in no time. He had a down year statistically but bring a lot more to the table than points.

Good point. I feel like a young player can go through some growing pains on the third line without attracting too much negative attention. The Rangers have Miller, Thomas, and, a couple more who could probably break in smoothly on a strong team like this. Bet thats what Sather thinks.

I don't see how you would NOT want to add Shane Doan to this team. This would be your top 9!

Brad Richards: 25-41-66
Rick Nash: 30-29-59
Marian Gaborik: 41-35-76
Derek Stepan: 17-34-51
Shane Doan: 22-28-50
Chris Kreider: is 20 goals for this kid fair?
Ryan Callahan: 29-25-54
Carl Hagelin: 14-24-38
the best of Taylor Pyatt/Brian Boyle/Christian Thomas/JT Miller?: 15 goals fair?

Without including your 4th line or defense, you're already up to 213 goals if the production can be repeated (I'll trade Gaborik's missed time with a full season of Hagelin). Plus, you have got to think that our PP has just vastly improved. Having Nash, Gaborik, Richards, Del Zotto, and Callahan out there at the same time is just stupid. (BOMBS AWAY, INDEED!)

This is an absolute nightmare for any defense, I don't care what your line combinations are. Our defense and goaltending is an absolute nightmare for any offense as it is.

How exactly is the league consistently beating this team?

It's difficult to transition from building to contending. The asset management strategy changes to a fair degree. This also requires a change in mindset; a willingness to let go of once coveted prospects or picks in order to fill a need. I can empathize with some fans that aren't happy with the deal.

However, I'm personally inclined to think the Rangers have done a masterful job here. They've addressed a great need without sacrificing the current or future core of the team; i.e., securing a top line goal scorer for two mid-level roster players, a great prospect and a late first round pick. This is a very good deal.

So they waited to get the right value, and in the end, got less than what the Rangers allegedly offered at the deadline. Interesting. Must be really high on Anisimov.

It's cool we have Stralman here who was a former teammate of his. technically Chad Kolarik too.
Fair enough. Time will tell. I just haven't seen that type of game from Nash the way I've seen Doan bang the body and pound it hard in deep.

Thats really the only aspect of this trade that has me excited. If Nash could come in and play it our way, fitting like a glove...great things will happen to say the least.

Will he wear no. 61 with us? After Prust leaving I need a new jersey, but number 61 is so ugly.

Howson said he spoke with Sather on Friday and told him what the deal was. Both sides backed off and came to a deal.

The Rangers didn't include any of their "untouchable" guys. Erixon was in the February deal.

I think 61 is a fine number, the way I see it, it's the person/name that makes the number...

Nash 61 looks fine, just as Jeter 2 looks fine, and Crosby 87 looks fine.

Nash 56, Jeter 3, and Crosby 12 would look awful....
