How many goals has Dubinsky scored since his insane hot streak at the beginning of the 2010-2011 season? I don't see him putting up the numbers he did in 2010-2011 again, because while that hot streak to start the season can't be discounted, he also led the entire league in empty net goals with 5. I wouldn't be surprised if he never tops 20 goals again. Given his cap hit, there was a risk of him becoming an albatross.

I also didn't see Anisimov as a long term fit here, because although he's responsible defensively, he just lacks the tenacity to be an effective third line center in this system. I'm glad we kept Miller over him.

Erixon is the piece that I think ends up the most valuable, but his lack of aggressiveness/passion was similarly a concern. Given our depth at LD, of the likely prospects they'd want, it was better to move him than Miller or McIlrath (although I expect Erixon to be a better overall player, McIlrath should fill that 2nd to 3rd pairing RD slot much better).

There's still a risk that Nash's numbers weren't a product of a bad situation and he doesn't give us more than 30-35g, and 60-65p. However, given the potential that he could also be a 40+g, 75+p guy in a better system, it was well worth that risk.

Ultimately, the price was right.

Not here to troll. I have a quick question. What does the Rangers cap situation look like now that Nash has been added? I know Gaborik is out until November, but when he does come back, what will the salary cap situation look like for New York?

He did have a 20 goal season not to long ago. I don't think you lose anything in terms of defensive play by making BB the 3rd line center. You lose some offensive output, but overall net I think its a gain.

Ill put it this way and this is directed towards no one in general but, for those who are really curious about the 3rd line C spot, if losing Anisimov as the 3rd line C was is that big of a deal that Brian Boyle wouldn't be an adequate replacement then we have big problems.

we traded dubi + aa + erixon for Nash, so we didn't add much to the payroll at all, and other than nash we brought in a bunch of cheap players.

I should have stated that Cap hit was only a worry before i knew what was going back to CBJ. Now looking at the deal i have no worries whatsoever.

I love Nash the player.

Expect the New York Rangers to introduce Nash to media and fans on Wednesday.
When is the last time the Rangers had an actual press conference? Gomez and Drury?

Wound up giving arguably more value w/ 2 NHL roster players going the other way.

Thats fine if you were against it then, but to turn around and absolutely love it now is pretty strange.

I disagree. A lot of the people I know who sort of follow hockey didn't want Nash because they didn't want to trade Dubinsky, and they thought the trade was like Dubinsky and a pick. I don't think everybody at the Garden is a die hard fan who keeps up with trade rumors.

The Garden can be pretty awful sometimes- see the "we want Avery" chant during a game where we were beating the Isles sometime in December.

We have 13.3mil free, right now. DZ and Stralman still need to sign. Judging from his conference call, Sather's eyeing Doan.

From what I have read, with Dubi, AA, and Erixon's cap hit had he played on the big squad, it would've added up to $7.85 mil compared to the $7.8 mil cap hit that the Rangers now take with the addition of Nash. Would Erixon have made the big club? From people I spoke to who have watched the Whale a lot last year, they were not optimistic. Also, according to the Sather conference call, Slats mentioned that AA had another year left on the contract and he would've been looking for a raise. From what I have read so far, the Rangers are $13 mil under the cap. They still have to work out a deal with MDZ and Stralman.

What about the cost to replace Dubinsky and Anisimov? Sather was playing a little fast and loose with the #'s.
