Nice deal. Hopefully Tallon can lock up Kulikov and Weiss.

I agree. The fact that his contract is so cheap right now makes me wonder if he'll get greedy and cash in on free agency. He could definitely get 5mill/year+ long term.

If we could get Weiss at the same price as Flash and Steeg, that would be great! Weiss will easily command $5+ million on the open market, and many of his haters would realize how much he meant to this team if he was ever to leave. People want to hate on him because he isnt one of the best centers in the league, but they fail to realize the obvious importance he is to this team. He has shown nothing but loyalty since day one, and gets spoken about the same way we speak about Blowmeester

Great deal locking up Versteeg at that price. I go offline for a single morning and everything happens at once ...

I like the deal and the fact it got done before going to arbitration shows future FA that we have a good management in place with good open lines on communication with our players.

Or he could get 4.5M in Florida long term, pay no state income tax & continue to golf year round instead.

I'm with you there. I'd give him 5 mil for 3-4 years just to prove a point if I was Tallon...he was ULTRA loyal which he deserves to be top paid forward for next few years. A rarity for GM to say that , and rare for a player to be as loyal as Weiss has been. Plus, he still has game left to live up to that contract with deeper top 6 unit in next year or so.

To hell with that. No need to overpay as a salary strapped team.

It would be nice to retain Weiss, but, if he wants more $$ than he is worth because this was a **** team for the majority of his career, he can move on.

Overpaying for "loyalty" is not a smart move.

Which one of our regulars HATE Weiss?

Who in their right mind would compare him to jayblow ?

Personally I don't believe he's a lst line center. Nor do I think he's captain material. but I like the guy, more than I care to share here. He is a very solid 2nd line center, incredibly durable, and awesome 2 way center.

His value to me is equal to his line members.

weiss plays all roles, is a good leader maybe not great but he's a good one. he loves it here. i'd definitely see him getting between 4.25-4.75

kulikov shouldnt get more then 3 esq. gotta stay healthy and prove something. 4-12.80

BoneThugsNHarmony has said he pretty much hates Weiss and a few other people take shots at him but I don't think anyone hates him like we hate Jayblow. On the open market if Jason Garrison is worth $4.6 million Weiss is worth $5 million. What everybody is forgetting both Flash and Steeger had career years playing with Weiss playing first line minutes had something to do with that but so did Weiss.

Glad Steeger is here long term now to move on to Kuli and Weiss. Maybe Weiss can get closer to the Yzerman expectations if he is playing a 2nd or 3rd line center roll man I hope our center prospects work out. This team could be scary deep at center in a couple years Huberdeau, Bjugstad, Weiss, and Goc not to mention Shore

Glad they avoided arbitration, it's a great deal for him, IMO.

Weiss is worth whatever he gets!

Garrison more than likely took a paycut to play for Vancouver.

Dennis Shootout Specialist Wideman got 5.5 over 5 years.

He is a completely one dimensional player, who is only good in the offensive zone.

Garrison had flaws too, but, Garrison is a much better defenseman than Wideman.

So, IMO, that comparsion doesn't hold much water, not to mention to compare contracts between a center and a Defenseman isn't a good way to gauge value.

I'm all for locking up Weiss for life, just do not want to overpay a guy just because he wanted to stay here while the team fielded was subpar.

Garrison absolutely took a paycut for Vancouver, but also probably got more years than anyone else was going to give him.

And yeah, I'd be easy on extending Weiss for an overpayment. I'd give him tenure, but I don't see a reason to overpay anyone. Negotiate like you normally would, but consider a longer contract.

Care to explain? It's comparable to 50 to low 60 points player, so not a steal, but not overprice.

You were in such a hurry to get your post in blasting me that you didn't even notice that just 4 posts under it, I confused Weiss' 3.1 mil contract with Booth's 4.25 mil one. That being said, I don't believe Weiss should get more than 4.5 mil anyway.

and you were in such a hurry to blast weiss you got the two contracts mixed up and didn't bother to look up the facts before posting...

good contract for versteeg on term and price. hope that sets the tone for our negotiations with others on this team. wouldn't mind seeing weiss getting similar price for longer term. kuli i would be fine in the 3 mil range for 3-4 years.

Strange, the Rangers have 4 players making more than $6 million per season (Nash, Gaborik, Richards, & Lundqvist) and we are a little over $3 million behind them in payroll. Am I looking at it wrong?

Anyway, what's promising is that I read Steeger played hurt the last two months (and playoffs) and says he's fixed now, just not skating yet. I remember all the comments here that he disappeared basically within that time frame. My point is a healthy Steeger should hopefully put up even better numbers this season.
