Quote:
Restricted free agent forward Evander Kane appears to be inching closer to a deal with the Winnipeg Jets.

According to Winnipeg Free Press writer and TSN Radio 1290 host Gary Lawless, negotiations between the Kane camp and the Jets have gained momentum, with Kane considering the a six-year deal from the club that would be worth around $29 million.

I think that's a good number for both parties. Hopefully for my team it means Hall and Ebs will sign a JT type extension.

If so, that's a steal.

Good extenstion for both teams if true. They get kane locked up for long time and good money for him as well.

My question is why are the amounts being negotiated released before signed? Is Kane hoping someone throws an offersheet at him? Personally I think Kane can do a little better. Right now the amount would be pretty fair, but in a few years he could quite easily be looking at a contract in the 6m+ range. If he signs this it is a steal for the Jets in my opinion.

come one Gillis to hell with Doan, offersheet Kane 9 years 54M. or if he wants a shorter term then 6 years 34.5M.

What's the reasoning here? That Winnipeg would completely implode over the additional million?

Terrible deal for Kane. He'll regret that if he ever starts putting up 30 goals consistently.

I'm going to sound like a homer, but that is a steal for Kane.

With better linemates and 1st line ice time, Kane could score 40 goals next year.

What makes you think the Jets wouldn't easily match either offer sheet. They were top third in revenue last season, they have guaranteed sell outs for 3 more years with a 8000 person waiting list for season tickets, and one of their owners is the richest person in Canada. Just because they don't throw their money away doesn't mean they won't keep their young core together.

Great deal for Kane if the UFA year doesn't get moved up, becomes UFA eligible at 26. If it does, a steal for Jets.

10 year x $6 million would be a no-brainer.

Kid's 20. 30 goals 27 appies.

Salary caps rising, can't find too many 2nd/1st liners, especially those who are 20. Guys who are scoring 57-60 points are getting $4-5 anyway. You'd expect Kane to score more points as a 21 year old and with better linemates.

I hate to be a butthole, but someone needing a 2nd line winger should offersheet 10yr x 6 sheets, easy.

If Van did that I would be very happy. But I'm sure they'd offersheet Edler back.

If it happens, that's a terrific deal for the Jets. For Kane, not so much.

No one said Jets won't match. It's just an idea.

Good deal for both. 29 million out of your second contract? And Jets get him locked up for a good price for 6 years.

I like how everyone is scheming up offersheet amounts. I'd bet my house the Jets would match any realistic offer someone might throw out there.

RDS has it as a done deal (no link, saw it on tv).

Edit : Not done yet according to their website.
