OEL doesn't make Yandle expendable - OEL is more of an all around guy, while Yandle is pretty much an offensive d-man. If Yandle moves, OEL essentially becomes our only proven PMD and our d-corps goes from Top 5 to a big question mark. Also can't count out the possibility OEL regresses next season as a result of increased minutes - Yandle certainly did last season after having a breakout year.

Sure, Rundblad and Gormley are in the pipeline, but most Yotes don't want to take the risk of rushing them too soon. Although Pavelski is attractive, this is not a deal that moves Yandle.

What would it take? We can add one of our young PMDs but then Nieto is out of the deal. Do you like Demers or Braun better?

Actually I could see GMDM moving Yandle for Pavelski, Demers, and a 2nd. I think Most Yotes fans wouldn't mind it, and could see fair value going both ways.

Take out the 2nd and put in a 4th and then I would do it.

All around? More like it looks like he will be able to develop into a defensman who can do everything Yandle can do and shut down top comp in the NHL. In other words he looks like real number 1 potential. OEL looks like he could be the real deal and the Yote future

What has Pavelski's linemate situation been like the last four or five years?

Unless something dramatic happens before this move, most Shark fans wouldn't be all that thrilled either

A conference rival? It would take an over payment and then GMDM may still say no...

Sharks sign Doan to replace Pavelski and trade Boyle somewhere like NSH or OTT.
Sure, let's bet all our top-6 chances on a free agent. Newsflash: we don't have offensive depth whereas our D is stable for the time being....why do we even trade away Pavs for Yandle?

There is that and there is that the NHL wouldn't want to trade significant assets when a potential deal is pending

I might be the only one in this thread thinking that but overpayment by the Sharks. Pavelski for Yandle straight up. You can have a pick, whatever.

It can happen after Doan signs too. We could really use a puck mover for the left side. Yandle could also replace Boyle as the offensive dman for us. He would stabilize our D for 4+ years.

I think this only happens once the Sharks know whats going on top-6 wise. Either Doan is signed, or Semin, or a trade is made (or at last decided upon). So let's just assume we've got that sorted out already through one of various options.

As stated, Yandle would both balance and solidify our D for the long term. He's signed to a good deal the Sharks would like as well.

Pavelski + Demers is fair I think

I agree.

Nieto is, by all accounts, one of our very best prospects in a thin pool. Maybe league wide comparison he doesn't shake down, but all the while we have Boyle, the need for Yandle is lessened and I am certainly not pushing Dan out the door. He's still an elite PMD.

On that basis, giving up Pavs and Nieto for Yandle is a waste of assets from SJ's point of view, as good as Yandle is.
