They're top end talents in minor hockey. Only a handful of guys in every draft turn into top end talents at the professional level.

Yes, there's a better chance a first rounder becomes one of those top end talents, but it's far from a sure thing. Most of the time you're hoping you get a serviceable NHLer with a pick outside the top 10.

I understand your point of view. This is a site that focuses heavily on the next generation of players, so your view is the common one. I'm the guy with the opinion against the grain here.

Gotta give kudos to Sather with his recent trades. Gomez for McDonagh and now Nash for next to nothing. Wow.

Nash, cond.3rd (goes back to CBJ if NYR make Cup final), mnr leaguer Steve Delisle to NYR for Anisimov, Dubinsky, Erixon and 1st rnd pick.

I bet Howson's pounding his chest over getting that condition included. Key to the deal, for him.

if the deal fall through i think the Flyers will go after Yandle... and aronott would help on the defensive end and faceoffs i would be fine with that rolling into 2013...

and with the trade for nash...no hit on the cap for them even up deal actually come out sightly ahead...those ********...lol

So with Nash's value set, what's that do to Ryan's value? Any expert opinion on what it takes to get lil Bobby?

Seriously, that's all CBJ got?

I'm hoping they were offering a little more than that for weber, if not poile better take jake & mez, 2 firsts and be happy.

Does the Nash deal change the value of what Homer does in a side deal with NSH?

Dubi is a ham 'n egger. They basically added another Umberger.

Anisimov will be a dog. They would have been better off getting Boyle. At least you know what you are going to get every night...tuff defender good on draws.

Erixson probably will a solid 3-4 dman.

Maybe the Flyers don't have to give up Voracek and Mez.

The Flyers may have had a stronger offer on the table awhile back, but could not be in on Nash due to the possibility of a post hoc ergo propter hoc trade for Weber.

I don't think it was an AWFUL return for Columbus, but they certainly could have done better, without getting the moon that Howson wanted.

If they play the right system and all the players buy into it, they can have a pretty decent team. Skillwise, I think they're even par/ahead of several teams. I think they can be like PHX.

And if they DO suck next year, and land Jones...that defense will be filthy for a decade or so:

Murray - Jones
Johnson - Erixon
Wiz - Savard
Moore - Nikitin
Goloubef

Good news for Bob.

edit: of course they SHOULD hope for MacKinnon, and deal a couple of those younger guys and a 1st for another star, considering they have 3 1sts next season, and still have Tyutin anchoring the D.

Anyone see Visnovsky is trying to get out of his trade with the Islanders?

Ok, assuming you guys actually do get Weber how about a trade with the Blues?

STL:
Meszaros

PHI:
2014 First
2013 Fifth

You guys get a first round pick the year you host the draft, while clearing salary and the Blues get a top 4 dman without trading our core?

My bad, completely mis-read that in my excitement haha. Would still take that trade.

Understandable, but as a Blues fan this would be a huge steal as no other players are really available right now that would fit our budget (around $56M). The only other player is bouwmeester and I'd rather not take a chance on him...

How bout Oshie?

Seriously, I'd be surprised if Mez got us a 1st, even if it's two years away and likely late in the round. I wouldn't say no, I just doubt it'd be proposed in the first place.

I like Mezaros, but if we end up getting Weber, he's the logical guy to move because of his salary. I don't think he'll fetch a 1st by himself after his injury this year. He seems like a buy low candidate much like when we traded a 2nd for him. Talented player.

No thanks to trading Oshie, he's a fan favorite here in STL, and a few people (including myself) named their dog after him.. I almost jumped out a building when people suggested trading him for a top LD..

I'd take it. The Flyers obtained Mez for a 2nd. Since that time he's had back surgery so to get a 1st AND a 5th is like winning the lottery.

Just the fact Hawson didn't wait until the Weber situation is figured out to trade Nash he should be fired! I'm just some dumb guy on a message board and I know to wait to try to get a better return. The timing of this trade baffles me!
