Someone should take the Jets for a ride and offersheet Kane 7Mx5. Worth the risk.

That would be an amazing deal for the jets if true.

Indeed, however if someone was crazy enough to do so and Kane wanted to sign it, I am not so sure the Jets would 'instantly match it.'

However much I would love to see Kane on the Canucks, I certainly would not be too chuffed if MG made such an offer.

This would be a seriously nice signing if the numbers are correct.

He hasn't earned it yet, but he could very well be worth that soon. Bottom line is we have enough faith in our management not to let someone bully us out of one of the league's most valuable young players.

the worst thing about the weber offer sheet is we are going to see 100s of bone-headed offersheet proposals in every rfa thread now.

It's bad when I see 29M and I feel like that's peanuts.

I don't think you're being a homer here.

Seems very realistic actually.

Weber was a pretty unique situation, I don't think offer sheets are going to be common place now. Flavor of the week on HFB maybe.

Great deal for the Jets if Kane signs it. One of my favorite young players. I'm confident they'd pay him more if they had to, you can't let a player that good slip through your hands.

Some of these offers of 7 - 8 M per year are getting a little out of touch. Kane is just coming off his ELC. While he has a lot of potential is anyone going to offer him a contract that compares to the game's elite at this stage of his career with a potential lockout on the horizon?

That's too much of a bargain for a talent like Kane. Why the discount? I don't begrudge Jets, just wanna understand why?

Tempting to say Pens thinking about 6m offer sheet.
Rangers would do at least 6.5 per, and forget about Doan, which they should be doing anyway.

Don't wanna be poachers here.
If Jets can't/won't pay market price, and somebody else will, what do Jets want to do sign and trade? Say a 7 year deal at $45m.

Not willing to pay market price is much different than trying to negotiate a good deal for your team to save cap space for elsewhere.

If they can get his name on a discounted contract id salute winnipeg management and move on.

If you sign him for 5 years @ 30 5 minutes later they match and are a little pissy with you that you made them overpay.

Jets can and would pay market price. What's the hurry? With or without the CBA settled, there are still many months until season begins.

Just because someone in the Winnipeg media wrote an article saying Kane considering a 6 year 29 M contract means the contract is signed. It is the ideal for the Jets. My guess is he will sign something similar to the Tavares deal or what Kessel signed for after his ELC. Something in the 5 + M per over 5 - 7 years. Pretty fair, considering his next contract will be the monster deal if he develops like he could.

6 years/29 million was the offer the Jets sent to Kane's agent. According to Lawless, they're expecting a counter offer soon.

Kane is pretty much going to sign for between 29 million to 33 million (what Tavares signed for) over 6 years.

That is the Jets offer, I am sure he will counter with 5.5mil per year and then they will settle on something in between.

30G and 170hits in his 3rd NHL season. Kid has big time potential and at age 20 still has so much room to grow and develop as a goalscoring powerforward. Considering they might scale back salaries with the new CBA a 4.83M cap hit may suddenly turn into a 4M cap hit. If I'm signing for 6 years, a contract which will take me to age 26 I definitely want a larger contract than that. I would push for a 6M cap hit, 6years, 36M would be my firm counter offer.

I doubt his agents are good enough to convince Jets management that he's worth more than Tavares.

I predict 6 years 31 million in the end.

If so, the deal is a bit much in year 1 (most likely), and by year 6 is a complete bargain.
