I think today is definitely the day that the Preds leak information. Whether or not the information they leak is truthful...

Dreger in an interview last night on TSN radio said he has gotten the idea from rival NHL gm's and others that they can not afford to match the offer sheet. He said they can use the picks as currency, and not necessarily with the Flyers.

Canucks GM Mike Gillis was on the radio yesterday. He said the Canucks did not sign Weber because he felt the Predators would match any offer sheet that was longer than a year. He said he suspects they will match because they need to protect their market.

Like Meltzer said today...Gillies statements seem self-serving.

Its a bluff. They want that good deal. So they will leak out information VIA press to pressure Homer.

If they were getting this done they would have already signed him. This isn't an average d-man. This is a franchise player. The trigger should have already been pulled if they were so serious about keeping him.

The #doubtful was in reference to the Flyers putting together a "great" package for Weber not the matching of the OS.

This still doesn't make sense to me. If Nashville is "prepared to offer", why wouldnt they just offer? No trade return is going to be worth Weber.

Besides for that comment being self serving, how many other teams would have the resources or smarts to offer such a dagger of an OS?

I could see Nashville not matching, then using the picks to make a big push for Bobby Ryan to piss Holmgren off.

The Canucks are worth more than the Flyers and generate more revenue.

Agreed. If anything it gives them a cop out as to why they didn't do what we did.

Yeah, I'm sure he'd be so "pissed" when we have the best defenseman in the league.

Once the Flyers have Weber, do you think they need Ryan? I know you want to upgrade wherever you can, but scoring forwards don't seem to be their weakness. May want to get an upgrade between the pipes though, no.

Another possibility is a third team becomes aggressive by contacting Nashville and initiating discussions for a potential trade involving the Flyers' 1st round pick in 2013 or 2014, etc. The Predators simply respond by saying "We aren't considering that at the present time."

10 man ownership group will need to discuss the situation. Make the hard decision and then get some money together. I think it's 26 mil in bonuses alone regardless of if there is a lockout or not (and I read somewhere Weber will get 13 mil within the following week) which takes time to get. Or maybe they are hoping that Homer offers a trade centered around Couts. These are two of the most likely scenarios IMO but the point is waiting the full 7 days means almost nothing.

It makes complete sense to me. If they wanted to get Weber a long term offer sheet was not the best way to go about it. It leaves the ball in Nashville's court.

not by enough to make that much of a difference at all

Canucks worth: ~$300,000,000
Flyers worth: ~$290,000,000

Canucks AAR: ~$146,000,000
Flyers AAR: ~$111,000,000

but the Flyers current Debt/Value is 22% compared to the Canucks 37%

which, if you want to get technical about it would bring the Canucks to ~$189,000,000 and the Flyers to ~$226,200,000. I don't even know if that's a proper assumption to make regarding debt/value to estimated worth, but i learned how to do percentages in high school...

And this would be for someone who wants to play in Philly and has signed an OS knowing how difficult it would make it for the owners to match.

I know some people here are getting pretty frayed from a week of back and forth. This will be all over soon and I would caution you all not to get too high or too low until a decision is officially announced.

Over the next 34 hours, you will see a ton of guesses being laid. They know something is going to happen and want to have a shot at "calling it". Trust the sources that know what they're talking about, but also recognize when they too are guessing or speculating or exaggerating he quality of a source.
