Johnson - Wisniewski
Tyutin - Nikitin
Moore - Murray - Aucoin - Savard - Erixon - others like Prout who are close

At least one of the young guys will be moved.. have to think Savard or Moore (depending on who holds more value) are good possibilities

Where is he expected to play next season? Probably can't play AHL, can he?

No, he's not AHL eligible. WHL or NHL for him.

We've got JMFJ and Wisniewski for that, thanks.

Odds of him making the Jackets? I have to say pretty high, even if hes not 100% ready there are plenty of ways to shelter his minutes (akin to what the Bruins will be doing with Dougie).

So, since he can't play AHL, is it assumed that he's going to make CLB? Would be nice to see him come in and play right away, but it could be a risk bringing him to the NHL to soon. Maybe, give him the Petro treatment where he trains and practices with the big boys, but doesn't get more than 9 games in the first season?

Close to 100%, backwards franchises usually rush their prospects.

There's an absolute logjam on the Jackets' blueline. For once, I see Scott Howsen not being an idiot and letting Murray spend another year in junior.

Johnson, Wisniewski, Tyutin, Aucoin and Nikitin are all a lock to make the squad. That leaves probably two openings for Erixon, Savard, Moore, Murray and others to compete for. IMO, Murray is not the most NHL-ready defenseman out of this bunch, so if Howsen isn't an absolute idiot, he sends Murray back to Everett.

I don't know who ends up playing in Columbus this year...I'm still thinking Howson might be trading a defender before the start of the season, maybe for a goalie like Bernier.

Right now Jackets have J. Johnson, Wiz, Tyutin, Nikitin, Moore, Erixson, Savard and Aucoin without even factoring in Murray. That's 9 potential defenders. The top 4 will probably consist of Johnson, Wiz, Tyutin and Nikitin, and the bottom 2 will be filled out by a combination or Moore, Erixson and Aucoin. Obviously 1-2 defenders will be injured throughout the season which would allow Savard to step in occasionally. If Murray stays with the team, then I would guess someone would have to be out next season via trade

While you're right, I do think Murray has seen enough in the WHL. Three full years should be good enough for a top prospect of his caliber.

I was leaning towards NHL but I think with the Tim Erixon trade, they'd be better served by keeping him in the WHL and seeing what they get from Erixon/Moore/Savard. Unless they plan to trade Moore.

Pretty sure he will get all of his 9 games and then the management can determine if it's worth keeping him for the season.

He said in a resent interview you need 10 (NHL ready?) defenseman going into a new season so I doubt he will trade anyone.
Just wonder how many NHL ready forwards he belives is needed!?

I'd like to see him go back to the WHL, work on his offensive game and captain Canada at the WJC. There's no rush. The Jackets have a bunch of guys in the AHL that are knocking on the door.

B-b-b-but that's not the Columbus way!

JK, this is a good plan. Let him play some top competition on the international stage.

Sure it is. The only two players who went right to the NHL without additional seasoning were Nash and Zherdev. Everyone else was brought along more slowly, or more "correctly", with little to show for it.

With little offense going into the year without Nash, will CBJ be more of a shut down and defense first system like Phoenix?

That would be good for a young goalie like Bobrovsky.

I'd call that reasonably probable... unless, of course, he shocks everybody in those 9 games or so.

It's really intriguing as it seems their top 4 is set and Aucoin is going to ''mentor'' a kid. I personally think Moore and Erixon could use another 20-40 AHL games to really develop and to maximize the chances they hit their upsides. Savard seems ready based on his offensive numbers, not sure about his defensive play. He's a righty, just like Aucoin, so that complicates things a bit. Murray was CBJ's #1 rated player in the draft, and I would imagine him being supposedly ''NHL ready'' was a big reason for that. I agree with some people here though, they should send him back and let him dominate the WHL and WJC. He could also be dealt to a WHL contender if Everett is once again not a contender. See Luke Schenn's up and down development since being put in the NHL at age 18 as for why this would be the prudent approach.

But several were on the team at age 19 (Klesla, Brule, Voracek, Filatov, Johansen) which will be Murray's age when this season begins. That is still extremely aggressive.

Brassard played 42 AHL games as a 20 year old and then graduated. It probably wasn't enough.

Looking forward to seeing what he can do in the NHL. I hope he comes becomes a player that the Jackets can build around, they really could use some breaks their way.

He should get at least his 9 games imo. A big part of what made him the highest ranked D prospect was his NHL-readiness. Whether he's on the roster this year or not though, CBJ has gotten themselves a quality group of young defenders to build around.
