Seems like a dumb move, Stars will just match the compensation unless you're trying to get them into cap trouble.

I also don't think that any of the remaining RFA's with the exception of Subban and possibly Carlson are worthy of an offer sheet (those two are potential no1 dmen or have already played that role to some extent). Is it worth offer sheeting Benn unless he becomes a PPG player on a better team because he hasn't gotten there yet and you can't just assume an upward trajectory anymore.

I 100% agree with offer sheeting Weber but not worth it unless you know for sure and I don't have that same certainty with Benn.

Ottawa - No space with Spezza and Turris
Winnipeg - no space and I don't see Chevy doing it. Although we have three 2nd rounders and two 3rd rounders next year, the 2013 draft is supposed to be very deep.
Edmonton - No space in their top six.
Vancouver - Would make the most sense if they didn't have Sedin and Kesler
Calgary - I could see Feaster doing it.
I'd boot Gagner in a heartbeat to make room for Benn but I don't think that the Oilers should be OS-ing anyone haha.

He got back Vancouver's 3rd rounder in the Booth/Samuelsson trade. So that would be enable Vancouver to make a few different offers.

I doubt Benn signs that, and if he does, Dallas matches instantly.

Would be a good move for Calgary because it's not like they can draft well.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Benn could be the 2nd line center when Kesler is out, and when Kesler comes back put either him or Kesler on the wing

Do you have a link from the source? I've checked the guys twitter, nothing mentioning Benn at all.

I would give Benn a 10 year offer sheet worth $70M.

Ottawa and Calgary are the two teams without 2013 2nd Round Picks.

Agreed. Would be surprised if Calgary did that, but just wanted to point out that technically it's possible.

4 1st Round Picks?

Stars don't match that.

i'm sure he has more than one offer sheet on the table but it's very unlikely that he will sign it

Yeah, Montreal has it from the Cammalleri/Bourque trade. Speaking of which, I could see the Habs doing it.

Bob Stauffer just clarified that he said it was a wild rumour and not much chance of it happening

via poster on Oiler board listening to Stauffer. Pretty sure he is just commenting on Eks bs.

Not sure if Montreal would do this. On one hand, he definitely fits the hold of the top 6 forward they're looking for. on the other hand, it'll come at the cost of valuable picks. That said, Bergevin wants to help the team win, and this would definitely help.

No offence, but every single one of these teams would make room in their top 6 for Benn in a heartbeat, he''s good on the wing and at C. In fact he'd instantly be a top line player on most of them...

Ottawa couldn't be in the brackets unless they offered less than $5 046 585, or more than $8 410 976 (4 1st Round Picks), because our 2013 2nd Round Pick was moved to St. Louis for Bishop.
You average the first 5 years of the deal if it's longer than that, as was shown with the Weber deal.

So a front-loaded 12-year deal with $8.5m in the first 5 years would be 4 firsts.

To me Benn might be worth it, and I could see Ottawa being the team to go for it.

Montreal is way too classy to even think of doing something like this. I wish they would
