Few media people surprised Nashville opts to match Weber offer sheet...me incl, but, many NHL team execs didn't think the Preds could.

It's pretty amazing that no very high profile offer sheet has gone without matching.
Weber, Fedorov, Sakic, to a lesser extent Vanek. There have been some lower profile ones that have changed hands. Penner, Wesley, etc.

Well, as of today, we're the only team in the Atlantic who has gotten significantly better. Feels good, man. Feels real good.

Wasn't too afraid of the Flyers, even with Nash, especially that we got Nash.
Great that we won't have to worry about him at all, though.
Remember when the Rangers lost the off-season, when Pittsburgh traded Jordan Staal and was going to assemble the Parise-Crosby-Malkin trifecta, and Philly was gonna get Bobby Ryan to make the greatest offensive team ever?

So since the Preds already matched do they have to wait a year before they could trade Weber (if they decide to) or could Philly still do a trade this year for him?

Could the Preds just be signing him with the idea of trade him to Philly?

Let's quote the general audience of idiots on this board. I feel it's appropriate right now.
"Hey Sather, still smoking cigars?" "How about you wake up and realize free agency started!"
God some of you are just incredible.

But, but, it's July 20th and we didn't improve! OMFG Weber! 8th place!

Preds' media is labeling him as a "Predator for life".
Seems like there is no intention to trade him.

Don't think so. They would just trade his rights for the same package.

Fantastic for Nashville, too. They proved they can play with the big boys, even with Suter leaving.

The Rangers just became the prohibitive favorites to win the East. Almost the same team as last year....Minus AA and Dubi + Kreider and Nash
If you're shane doan looking at your options, you see a Flyer team that's lost JVR, Jagr, Carle, and has just now lost Weber, but only added Fedotenko and Schenn....and you see a Rangers team that went to the ECF go on to lose Dubi adn AA but add Kreider and Nash...you have to think to yourself, the better team just got better...the weaker team just got a whole lot weaker, and the Rangers actively want me.
Where would YOU go?

You can't trade a player for a year after you match his offer sheet.

Yeah I don't think this is a sign and trade. They're keeping him.
Thank god, Weber teeing up slapshots and injuring Rangers 6 games per year for 14 years was not something I was looking forward to
And now we get to see what crazy stunt Homer pulls next. Offer sheet for Subban or Carlson maybe?

Also, does this contract not contain NTCs of any kind?

I believe he can't be traded until next summer as well.

No. A CSN reporter mentioned that a few days ago.

Can't trade in for 1 calendar year. Based on bonus structure they will have paid out $27M of his owed dollars already (now and next July 1).
So never say never but I would be shocked.

So let me get this straight, even though it was Philly who signed the OS for Weber, Nashville can't trade him to them until at least a year later?
