Yet if given the chance I'm sure Holmgren will do it anyway.

Interesting, man I wish Nashville would just match sooner than later..

I was seeing the standard rumor sights talk about Offer Sheet for Jamie Benn, etc. I was wondering if the Shea W. offer would start this.

Even if they sign him out of spite, then what? They can't trade him for 1 year at which point they will have paid out 1/4 of the total contract and this ownership group has very shallow pockets. Even though it might make more hockey sense to go that route... (i.e. much better return)

Wonder if the offersheet has a NTC/NMC in it.
Wasn't there talk though that Poile was negotiating trades? Why sign the offersheet instead of waiting for a trade and sign an extension with his new club before the CBA? This is only an argument against signing a one year deal or one year offer sheet, he could have let NSH trade him though. As an RFA he was free to talk to all interested parties and doubtlessly would not have been traded to a team he abhored that much, Staal-style.

Even if the OS has a NMC, the Preds do not have to honor it. He is actually in more danger of being punted to a not-contender by Poile than he would have been before. Somewhat ironically.

The more I read about this the more I believe that a form of Collusion is taking place between Weber, Weber's agent and Philadelphia Management to force down Nashville's demand for Weber. This is where a good commisssioner needs to step in and not let a small group wreck a multi-milliondollar franchise (Predators) so they can each get what they selfishly want.

We have approximately $10m in cap space, and that doesn't include Tangradi but does include MacIntyre.

If we sign Semin for 4 years at a cap hit of $5.5m per year with a NTC, and then the cap goes down $4m as part of CBA negotiations as a concession on behalf of the players, and there is no salary rollback as a concession on behalf of the owners, then we would be up against the cap. People will be coming off the books to help cover it also, but I am just noting that if you give a big chunk of our cap space to someone like Semin this offseason and you tie that up for several years, then you run the risk that you need that money down the road to afford raises to players like Malkin or Letang and the money may not be there. Then you have to either trade one of them, or you have to trade other players that you maybe wanted to keep.

Edit: And now Philly is back to where they were a week ago, with no Weber, minus Jagr, minus JVR, minus Carle and plus Schenn the Dman. Off to their forum to bask in Schadenfreude.

Good that they matched! i dont want Weber smashing sid and genos faced into the glass for 14 years. Bad thing is that they Flyers will most likely tilt and get doan and/or Semin and we get none :/

Ray Shero is a terrible GM who is letting his team get worse after an embarrassing loss to the Flyers.
Paul Holmgren is a terrible GM who is letting his team get worse after an embarrassing loss to the Devils.
Lou Lamoriello is a terrible GM who is letting his team get worse after an embarrassing loss to the Kings.
Glen Sather is a genius. The Atlantic Division is now the Rangers' to use as their little play-thing.

If you can't give those money to the BEST active defensman, you better retire from hockey.

And somebody go to that damn bridge to tell the news to the jumpers!!

Good news. Would much rather have Nash in our division then Weber.

Hopefully the things Weber "thought" about Nashvilles chances will turn out to be misquoted or what have you. I'd hate to have to hear more trade rumors after this.

The best part:

Nashville and Philly seemed to have one of those really good relationships when it came to trades. Look how many core players came to Philly from Nashville over the years. Now all that is out the window. Phily poisoned that well for nothing.

I want bake W. Brett Wilson a yummy pie.

Somehow this was worth it now, just to see the Flyers fans backpaddle after they had budgeted this already.

how long before holmgren makes a panic move to make up for missing out on this one? Though maybe this was good for him. It may have satiated his need for major attention without actually losing anything. Ridiculous Offer Sheets may be his new high of choice.
