I can't think of a dollar amount Dallas would not sign. As I said on the Stars boards, if someone offered Benn a 15 year contract in the range of $150 million I would still match it.
You'd be fine with Benn having the biggest Cap Hit in the NHL?

Homerism at its finest. No one signs Benn at 15 year 150, period.

Yeah, but is Dallas a team that would spend to the cap ceiling?

Ottawa - No space with Spezza and Turris
Winnipeg - no space and I don't see Chevy doing it. Although we have three 2nd rounders and two 3rd rounders next year, the 2013 draft is supposed to be very deep.
Edmonton - No space in their top six.
Vancouver - Would make the most sense if they didn't have Sedin and Kesler
Calgary - I could see Feaster doing it.
The thing about the Penner "offer sheet." that pissed him off is that Lowe never came to him and said he was going to offer sheet him. He has nothing against offer sheets. He does have a problem with front loaded deals though.

Benn is the new "face" and the future captain in all probablity-anything less than 10 yr-70million probably gets matched.

The team who signs him to that is dumb and if Dallas matched that, they are dumber.

No one throws that kind of money at Benn. Only a player like Crosby could justify money like that.

Four 1st round draft picks or Gagner, Klefbom, Reider, and two 1st picks?

Calgary and Ottawa don't have their 2nd and Canucks have Kesler and sedin down the middle (still possible but not as desperate). That would leave Toronto, Montreal and Winnipeg all teams without a number 1 C and therefore are all realistic possibilities

This is ridiculous. Benn is not worth that much money.

Besides, no GM in there right mind would offer this, and Dallas would be stupid to match any offer sheet like that.

Montreal considering a 1st in 2013 expandable? Nope not going to happen.. sorry.

The only Canadien team that makes sense is the Canucks, so I'm calling BS.

Can he play RW? Exactly what the Canucks need if he can. Otherwise, I would hope Gillis has his finger on the trigger for a Kesler trade right after the sheet.

The Oilers can't OS him. Kessel/Seguin x 2.

Stauffer was speaking about a rumor and clarified later that he had no knowledge of anything with regards to this (was likely a listener asking about eklund rumor).

OP is misleading.

Actually Dallas would likely pass on both. They have a decent and improving farm. They need to make the playoffs or risk becoming irrelevant here. Gagner is a piece but my guess is that they would want something EDM would not want to part with. EDM probably ought think about a goalie first.

I would think they would have to be. Dallas would want to get those picks in before the Oilers get much better.

Isn't bad. The Oilers could advise Dallas of a massive front loaded contract or trade offer. Either way I'm not sure the Oilers win this in the long run

Unless I see Bryan Murray trade some players for their second back from St. Louis, Ottawa isn't one of the teams. Benn is a terrific player. Any team would want him.
