As an RFA he was free to talk to all interested parties and doubtlessly would not have been traded to a team he abhored that much, Staal-style.

Even if the OS has a NMC, the Preds do not have to honor it. He is actually in more danger of being punted to a not-contender by Poile than he would have been before. Somewhat ironically.
I thought the terms of the offersheet are binding, so if there is NTC/NMC in it then they can't simply ignore that.
I think weber signed the offersheet, because a.) he wouldn't mind playing for the flyers. and b.) because the types of offers and directions talks had gone he felt this the best offer he could get.

I can't blame a man too much for wanting to get paid. Hopefully for Nashville Weber will be content there.

I am all in favor of him making his usual silly panic moves in which he actually gives up things other than picks.

you only have to match an offer sheet in principle. No extra bells and whistles beyond dollars and years. I agree that he signed the deal because he wanted the money, wouldn't mind the flyers and wouldn't mind staying with the Preds. Put himself into a win-win situation instead of potentially being traded to a team he didn't want to play for.

agreed. But he may have just found a way around doing that. Could be his best move yet.

The main board taught me that only the term and pay structure are binding any other clauses are not. Nashville will have to match all the term and all the money exactly like Philly constructed the deal, but nothing beyond that.

I agree about the rest and hope Nashville doesa not lose a beat next season.

What will the Holmgren nut-huggers around here do now?

Once, they were drawn into the orbit of his enormo-balls, unable to understand the very simple fact that an offer sheet was not a guarantee. Now they've been abandoned, destined to float aimlessly into the abyss.

we can only hope

In other news, I'm pretty sure those same people now consider Glen Sather the best GM in the division. Dear God

Hmmm, as long as he keeps getting shut out trying, I could also find some humor in him ruining all his relationships like a bull in a china shop, I guess.

true, there is still that negative. But its still better for his team than trading away Giroux and Schenn for futures next summer

Certain people are curiously missing at the moment.

Somewhere Shero is still working while these fools are trying to figure out the next reason to criticize him.
