I won't venture over to the main board today...plenty of Pens fans gloating I'm sure.

Which is funny, since their defense is in worse shape than ours.

You're on a hockey message board, I'm guessing because you like/love hockey, but you'd rather there not be a season just so a team in another conference gets ****ed financially? Grudge much?

Well I still think in the next 5 years we can win it...but it would have been much easier with Weber although if we had to give up Couts and Schenn down the middle or at least one of them maybe it would have been a wash. Having said this...we will need a franchise D man to win it all..no doubt.

Going from Shea Weber to Jay Bouwmeester is like proposing to jessica alba then being rejected by her and settling for kathy bates.

JoBo's contract is awful. No thank you.

The D is fine. We just need Schenn to get over last year's slump and Mez to stay healthy.

Honestly, the more I think about it the more I want Homer to resign Jake and then stand pat. Bank some cap space for the trade deadline and for your upcoming free agents.

Since owning an NHL franchise is a business, one has to be an idiot to behave like that, in particular when you loose your bet like in this particular case. You have to look at this with an opened mind and put things in perspective, not only from a Flyers centric point of view.

Dude, there was no gamble involved for the Flyers. They gave Weber a contract similar to what Suter got. Nashville wouldn't give him those terms and the Flyers forced their hand. The consolation prize is that Weber is not in an Eastern Conference uniform.

They weren't making a 110 million dollar gamble to keep him in the West. Keeping him in the West is merely the excellent "worst" outcome from this.

Which was what everyone said last Thursday when the OS was first signed. There's nothing "after the fact" about it!

Yup big time. And how their team is supposedly better with an even worse defense and no Staal in addition to how Sutter automatically replaces him.

letang is better than anyone we have.. after that if depres can develop and orpik bounces back its very even. Regardless, no team is competing for cups with either defense.

That's the same unbiased point of view that said "no one will sign a long-term deal with the Flyers after Richards/Carter", right? And here we are a year later after Shea Weber signed a mammoth offer sheet with the Flyers.

Offer sheets are part of the CBA. Get over it.

They also just lost Staal, while we still have Couturier...who will likely be improving defensively.

You are talking 50% odds he would stay in the West, not sure that was part of the masterplan. The goal was to sign him. Anyway, I am glad you are happy he's staying in Nashville...
