As a Canucks fan, I'd have no problem with $90M over 15 years.

H. Sedin
Kesler
Benn
(Schroeder) - in minors waiting for top 6 injury
Malholtra
Lappy

Is great centre depth and we have the cap space to do it.

I highly doubt Dallas doesn't match given how much our owners hate each other.

As great as he is, I hope Ottawa doesnt throw 4 1sts at him. We still have a long way to go in our rebuild.

You don't see the issue with 15 year contracts? One more 12+ year contract and I'll have to start calling Gillis Wang 2.0.

He's young, elite and the face of the Stars. There is no way we wouldn't match an offer.

Anything less than an offer worth 4 1sts would be immediately matched by Dallas and no organization in their right mind would offer 4 1sts for Jamie Benn. Trading 4 1sts for a 5th round pick is basically committing organizational harakiri.

Also gas this thread.

Different calibre of players gettign the contracts though. Pplus one is a GM and one is an owner.

I don't see any problem at all as long as the player is worth the cap hit. Wang's biggest issue is that he has a bum on a huge cap hit.

Despite what people are saying here guys like Luongo, Hossa, and Carter have trade value and their contracts are not actually arbitrosses.

This post is so... Wrong. I tried not to say stupid.

Who would trade a 1st for Datsyuk or Zetterberg? A 1st traded for a 6th or 7th round pick!? OUTRAGEOUS! I bet Pavel Bure was worth no where near a 1st back in his day.

It would be the picks for Jamie Benn. Big difference. His draft position means dick all at this point.

That's what I was thinking.

Nashville is going to match any offer sheet for Weber? Offer sheet Benn instead and trade Kesler + whatever we get for Luongo for Weber.

/not saying we should do this, it's just an interesting idea

That's nice.

I'd much rather the Flames trade for Benn.

To Calgary: Benn, Fistric, 5th round pick
To Dallas: Bouwmeester, Backlund, 3rd round pick

Offer sheets hardly ever work, Weber is the latest example.

When those contracts were signed, they WERE the same caliber of player. And Wang was playing both owner and GM at the time. It was only when Snow arrived on the scene did he take a back seat.

Well, those contracts are barely into their term and already Luongo is proven to be a burden to move.

an offer sheet would be way more likely to work than that trade proposal

Is this a joke? Bouwmeester is not the main piece in a Jamie Benn trade.

Why? Bouwmeester is a top-pairing d-man and Backlund has 2nd line center potential. Flames get a top-line center to play with Iggy/Tangs and a #5/6 d-man. Dallas gets the higher pick. Fair trade IMO.

Offer sheet will be easily matched.

Bouwmeester is signed for 2 years and overpaid. Benn is younger, can be signed much longer term, and a 1C is more valuable than a 2D.

Offering that package for Benn is bananas.

Not fair. And I'm not a fan of either team.

You really think you could get Benn for that.

I am interested how you come to that valuation given that even the Calgary radio guys are suggesting a valuation of a 2nd and B level prospect for Bouwmeester. How do you then value Backlund given that Dallas are also giving up Fistric.

IMO, Nucks are the only team that makes sense. Money, contending, needs a top6, etc. Still, I'll believe it when a more credible source comes aboard. There hasn't been a successful offer-sheet yet and Weber should be a reminder of that.
