Dick move by Holmgren. I hope that Giroux gets an offer sheet next year, Holmgren is the worst gm in the league.

Blame Poile. Should have never gotten this far. Hat's off to Holmgren for being aggressive and trying to improve his team. Holmgren probably already has the contract written up for Giroux.

Yes they can, it's in the CBA. Not sure why the Preds would be willing to add the clause but they could offer it up to make Weber happier coming back.
No, the offer sheet is the contract, it can't be altered. Show me where it says that they can add a NTC/NMC.

I'm just curious what happens if Weber demands a trade.

I mean I doubt it happens next season or maybe not for a few years but Nashville doesnt strike me as a team really willing to risk big money for a cup. I can see Weber wanting out in 2 or 3 years if the Preds flounder.

Would be pretty funny to give giroux an offer sheet next year considering his contract doesn't run out for 2 years

To the Philly fan who feels bad for Weber, please don't. Dreger is purely speculating that Weber didn't want to go back. Weber wanted to get paid plain and simple. He wanted a long term deal under this CBA because who knows what the new one will look like. If Weber wanted out of Nashville he could have gone wherever the hell he wanted in a year, he signed the offer sheet knowing this could mean he ends up in Nashville long term. Honestly there is no way he's that upset, he's still getting paid over $100 million.

Fair to say Weber and those close to him are surprised Preds matched. You don't sign a sheet like that if you expect the team to match.
If this is accurate, heh.

How do you not consider that a team might match this? It was obvious to most that they likely would. Again, do not confuse the franchise with the owners. The owners knew going in that they would lose money for a while, and had the money to match this, so to not consider the possibility is stupidity at its furthest reaches.

Though the thoughts seem to be Dreger's, not any actual reporting from a source. So he is the idiot, not Weber or 'those close to him'. I am fairly certain Weber and his agent knew it was possible if not likely that ownership would pony the money up.

good move, and for those saying Weber must be pissed, look no further then Rick Nash...if you want out, you can get out and Poile will have plenty of takers to move Weber and get a buttload in return.

my gut says Weber was signed for this year only, and if the Preds dont look like contenders they will trade him for a king's ransom

If he lets Roo get to the stage to be presented an offer sheet, you are correct, he would be a moron. And the moron has G on 2 more years at 3.75 per
