Ottawa - No space with Spezza and Turris
Winnipeg - no space and I don't see Chevy doing it. Although we have three 2nd rounders and two 3rd rounders next year, the 2013 draft is supposed to be very deep.
Edmonton - No space in their top six.
Vancouver - Would make the most sense if they didn't have Sedin and Kesler
Calgary - I could see Feaster doing it.
Jamie Benn would easily bump Turris down to 3C so I wouldn't rule out Ottawa, if this is true. I agree that Vancouver makes a ton of sense as well, those 1sts are likely going to be bottom of the round picks. I could also see Feaster doing it as well, even though they really need to keep them and begin rebuilding (whenver they decide to).

Vancouver and Winnipeg make the most sense. Leafs could definitely use him.

If there was an offersheet at 6m or under that I didn't think the Stars would match, I'd send it from a Canucks perspective but I don't think there is.

Waste of time, just like Weber.

I don't see Winnipeg offering Benn a contract until they get Kane wrapped up.

Vancouver seems to make the most sense since Calgary is missing their second.

I am interested how you come to that valuation given that even the Calgary radio guys are suggesting a valuation of a 2nd and B level prospect for Bouwmeester. How do you then value Backlund given that Dallas are also giving up Fistric.
Flames will not trade Bouwmeester for a 2nd round pick and "B level prospect." Fistric would be a throw in. He would be redundant in Calgary.

Agree that a #1 C holds more value than a #2 D however.

Offer sheet will be easily matched.
Jay-Bo is soft and lost all his offensive upside. His only attraction is his ability to log big min. Jamie Benn is a 23 yr old #1 centerman that can play every position, chipped in 20+ goals since breaking into the league and could potentially become a franchise player. Backlund is worth a bag pucks at this point until he starts showing that he can actually play at the NHL level.

Any offer sheet with compensation below 4 1st rounders will be matched. Dallas has a stable ownership that is willing to spend. If Benn was an RFA last summer, things might have been different, but with Tom Gaglardi we can rest assured that Jamie Benn will remain in Dallas.

Calgary can't really do it since Montreal has their 2nd in 2013 and there is no way Dallas wouldn't match an offer in the 1st and 3rd compensation range (Hell, Benn may not even accept a contract in that range).

I can't see Montreal making an offer. Benn would be great, but Montreal is still in a place where it may make more sense to stick with building through the draft.

I'd be surprised if the Canucks went offer sheet. Unless you go nuts with it or the team is at the cap ceiling there's no point.

Got to love you guys that are already slotting Benn into your lineups. There is simply no offer that Dallas wouldn't match. I swear if you want to generate hits and attention all you have to do is make up rumors involving "a Canadian team". Stop taking the bait.

Agreed, it would be stupid considering the Leafs will finish in the bottom 5 next season.

Benn is a left wing and Montreal has a very obvious hole on the 1st line LW. Plus they have all their picks to do this.

I could really see this coming from Montreal.
XXXXXXX - Plekanec - Gionta
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole

No team is going to like Jamie Benn more than the Stars already do. GMJN would thank whichever GM saved him time.

Would make a lot of sense if it were the Canucks. They're contenders, so they're probably not gonna lose sleep over giving up late firsts. Benn fills a need for them at center as long as Kesler's on IR, and wither can play wing when he's healthy again.

That's a big offer for Jordie Benn, but the Stars will probably take it.

I'd be happy matching a 15 year, 10M per deal. He's that valuable to us.

Edmonton - They'd be stupid to, after the way their last OS's went. Don't see it, personally.
Vancouver - Not enough capspace.
Calgary - Not enough capspace.
Winnipeg - Chevy doesn't seem like a guy who would toss out an OS.
Toronto - Doubt Burke does it, with his views on OS's.
Montreal - Can't see them doing it either, Galchenyuk is their future #1 and will likely be pretty similar to Benn.
Ottawa - Already too deep at center, and I just can't see it.

He'll be a Star next season and for many more after.

first of all, he's a first line center, so no that contract is not huge, and you'd be willing to trade your franchise player for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. thank god you're not a gm, even of teams i depise
