Why exactly am i mad? I just thought it was a good move by Holmgren. Poile needed to lock up Suter and Weber last year. He didnt and it cost him Suter and the organization 27 million dollars next year.

Now that Nashville has matched, expect Titan Sports to ask for a no trade or modified no trade clause for Weber. Can't be traded for 1 year

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC
Re: adding a NTC to Weber deal. NHL's position is CBA dictates that cannot happen. The offer sheet is the contract; no changes allowed.

Good for Nashville. Could have been a real disaster for them if they lost both Suter and Weber.

Its his own fault. He knew this was very possible. Something tells me he will be fine in Nashville and this was about the money before the new CBA.

I thought the compensation would have been 4 1st round picks. Based on what I am looking at it only would have been 2 1sts, 2nd and 3rd since the cap hit is below 8+ mil??

And thank you Nashville.

Sather was very interested in Weber, even more so than Nash. IMO when the offer sheet was signed, that lit a fire under both Sather and Howson's ***** to get a deal done. Howson realizing he had no options left and Sather in case NSH doesn't match, it keeps things on a level playing field and prevents PHI from re-entering the Nash negotiations and driving the price up.

Its a win for every one but the Flyers. Sure Bobby Ryan is still available but who knows what he will cost compared to Nash or Weber.

Saw this sentiment in the last thread too. We have no idea if he wanted out of Nashville. He signed an offer sheet - there is an enormous risk that his team would match. If he wanted out, he was a complete fool not to wait the year and go UFA. I'm guessing he is not a complete fool, and would have been satisfied with either outcome.

I am sure he's fine PETRYDISH. It was a heck of a gambit His agent pulled. He negociated a rich deal with the a flyers he new that the Preds would have to match rather than fighting it out in the trenches with Poile. no way he did this if he wasn't prepared to stay in Nashville IMHO.

Congrats Preds fans

Here is the relevant section.
"Section 10.3

(b) If the Prior Club gives the Restricted Free Agent and his Certified Agent,
if any, notice, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereto, that it is exercising its Right of First
Refusal (a "First Refusal Exercise Notice"), such notice to be substantially in the form of
Exhibit 7 attached hereto, to the Player's and his Certified Agent's, if any, address or
facsimile number listed on the Offer Sheet, if any, within the seven (7) day period, such
Restricted Free Agent and the Prior Club shall be deemed to have entered into a binding
agreement, which they shall promptly formalize in an SPC, containing: (i) all the
Principal Terms (subject to subsection (e) below); and (ii) such additional terms as may
be agreed upon between the Restricted Free Agent and the Prior Club
. The Prior Club
may not Trade that Restricted Free Agent for a period of one year from the date it
exercises its Right of First Refusal."

If Weber actually is pissed, he's a spoiled brat beyond belief. He was unrestricted in one year, that's all he would have to wait. I honestly believe he just wanted to get paid under this CBA, if he wanted to get paid under this CBA and it not be in Nashville well then **** him. I doubt the new CBA will require NHL players to play for sweat shop wages.

Just so you don't get snarked all over, that's not right.

The salary is divided by the term of the contract or 5, whichever is less.

So he'd be well over the 4 1sts threshold.

edit: too late

It's kind of funny that people stuck around for 12 threads for literally nothing happening, but what the hell, this is HFBoards.

I can promise you that Poile has talked with Weber before he decided to match. If Poile is nothing else, he's thorough.
