I disagree about it being stupid, but I do agree that NHL GMs in general would not do that. He's a top of the line defenseman and will be an All Star within the next 3 years.

Well, every team in the NHL is certainly going to know that the Flyers are looking for defensemen and that the cost just went up drastically. If I'm Holmgren, and I know people are going to flame me for this, but I'd do nothing right now. Simply put, teams are going to know the Flyers are desperate and they're going to ask for the moon. Holmgren needs to sit back, let things cool down for a bit and come up with a different plan of action.

I still think a deal can be worked out with Phoenix for one of their plethora of defensemen. I'm still very high on a guy like Maxim Goncharov who could really blossom here. I'd also like to see what the asking price for Rundblad or Gormley would also be. I know the popular sentiment would be to target a guy like Yandle, but I'd stay away from him because the cost to acquire him would be through the roof.

What's the deal with Yandle? Is he going to get traded or what? I would look at him now that Weber is off the table... isn't he more of a "jump into the play" kinda guy anyway (something that would fit the flyers system)?

Did the Blues ink Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo yet? Both young and looking like promising offensive D-men.

Yandle was apparently available around the draft but then he was taken off the market

Shattenkirk has another year at 1.3m

Pietrangelo has another year at 3.166m

Sign Colaiacovo for a year if he wants, low risk/high reward at this point.

Sign Voracek and trade for a defenseman ONLY if the price is right ... No Ryan or Doan or Semin

I would rather wait until the trade deadline to make a move for a defenseman though

1A. Resign Voracek.

1B. Call up Winnipeg and inquire about Evander Kane.

2. Look for low risk high reward FAs (Kristian Huselius, Gilbert Brule)

3. Look at bringing back old Flyers (Daymond Langkow, Mike Knuble)

4. Look overseas. (Mathis Olimb, Niclas Wallin, Oscar Moller, Brent Sopel, Alexander Frolov, Alex Kovalev) Kovalev is actively looking to come back to NHL.

5. Homer needs to remain calm, no use and giving up too much in a trade in retaliation to the Rick Nash trade.

666. Give up and sign Jon Sim.

He's pretty solid, but has never played a full season because of injuries.

See if we could sign Goldberg to a one year deal. He can just go around spearing people.

(the wrestling move not the hockey penalty)

Stay put unless you can get Ryan for Voracek and not much else.

We went after Weber because he's a true number one dman. There aren't any other ones available for any less than it was going to cost us to get Weber.

Go with what you got aside from Ryan/Voracek.

As far as Semin, no interest. We need a whole lot defensive work from our forwards. I think we'll be just fine in the goal department. The problem now, as it was last year, is a lineup and system that will prevent us from getting lit up. Semin doesn't help that the least bit.
