Pens drafted two Dmen this season that could end up being good trade assets in a couple years.
If Nashville trades him after fronting all this money they will really be idiots....but wouldn't surprise me especially if Weber sours even more.

The Flyers have also offer sheeted before with no repercussions so why would that change now? It won't.
Exactly, the flyers had nothing to lose

I'm sure it's nothing personal against Nashville. He probably wishes bankruptcy on every franchise in the league. Kind of limits the competition. Then we'd get to see the Flyers and Rangers as the only contenders every year. That'd be fun

song explains this situation well for both sides involved. It couldve gone either way fromwhat ive heard or we wouldve matched instantly. Cant say im upset but regardless good luck the rest of the offseason and next season

EDIT: well the plug in is missing for the song for some reason, but its "no expectations" by Yonder Mountain String Band.

I still think they wouldn't have matched if the offer sheet was 14 years and between 120m and 130m or so

we were prepared to match anything, anything. With suter gone, thats basically twice the money open for use on a weber contract so the money is there. We had him no matter what unless Holmgrem was to trade us exactly what Poile wanted, which he obviously didnt and I am grateful.

It was a good risk and a good effort by Holmgren. Even better on Holmgren to not cave on trade demands. Stick to your guns, keep your assets in tact, live to fight another day.

I don't blame them at all for matching. Still doesn't mean I can't be mad and not like them.

I don't care about any team that isn't the Flyers.

If Nashville has to move then I will laugh and say that it "serves 'em right".

The analysis has been ridiculously short-sighted and one-sided so far.

Regardless of the outcome and if we do end up with the best defenseman in Hockey, which I think we will, tomorrow is a dark day for hockey.
This post from 1:59pm today is the perfect post for what has happened.

How screwed is Nashville if there is a lockout?

Other teams fans complaining. What do they expect? Nashville had not signed Weber to a long-term contract for whatever reason. He was fair-game. And Philly realized they had to front-load it heavily in an effort to ensure Nashville didn't match. In the end they did, and they got their franchise player under contract for 14 years..... how Nashville or other teams are mad about that?

Other fans are upset because now they'll never get a chance to get Weber.

Philly is where it was a week ago, in a nice spot with a very nice top 8.

Nashville is going to be deeper in debt than before just to prove a point.

Shea Weber is the one who really lost - he's stuck in Nashville for 14 years when he wanted OUT.

No one should be mad. Other fans shouldn't be mad that the Flyers tried to improve by signing a free agent. Flyers fans shouldn't be mad that Nashville chose to keep their talent instead of going through a rebuild.

Their responsibility is to their team. Not to make Holmgren's job easier because he can't produce defenders of his own.

Why do people keep saying this? If Weber wanted OUT, he'd sign a 1yr deal and walk as a UFA. Simple, done.

Weber wanted the $100M contract, though, and Nashville wasn't going to offer him that. So, how else do you get that money (since the new CBA will prevent it)? Sign an offer sheet. Win-win. If they pass, he's got a new team and his big money. If they match, he's still got his big money, which was what he wanted all along.
