Enstrom's a very underrated dmen but he's only part of the solution. He's a no1 dman but not along the same lines of the 5-10 best in the league.
The price is high even with an yr left, I think the better option is to go for a can't miss dman prospect. Dougie Hamilton is really the only one and Brandon Gormley maybe being the other 2-way guy with no1 potential and a certainty to be at least top four.

You have to heavily overpay for that because they have enormous value to their team and cost next to nothing until they hit their stride. It's also why those kinds of players rarely get traded except as part of a package for a major piece.
At this point my priorities for this team would be getting an elite winger for giroux, then fixing the defense be it in the trade deadline or next off season, unless we can get boumeester very inexpensively.
I would love to OS Kulikov, as he will by all indications be a stud, but i just dont see the league liking that at this particular juncture, and i dont think i have the stomach to handle another week of waiting.
My post-weber dream scenario would be:
Acquire Bobby Ryan for Voracek, Mez, and a 2nd.
Offer Semin 2 years 12 million.
Look to get ALEX EDLER next year at large money, something like 6 years 35 million
people gotta stop with the Bouwmeester stuff. he's one of the most overpaid players in the league. the Gomez of defensemen. he's not worth anywhere near what's he's getting and would seriously hurt this team's cap.
they should..
1. resign JV.
2. try and sign Doan. because he wouldn't cost the team any players, and the team really needs another top 6 forward.
3. inquire about Ryan or Yandle, but ONLY if the price is right. do not give up Couturier or B.Schenn for either.
no to any of Knuble, Huselius, Arnott, etc. after signing Feds, this team has enough bottom 6 players, don't need anymore. the team needs a top 6 forward and a puck moving Dman. that's it.
btw, anyone know what the status of Del Zotto is? he's a RFA but i haven't heard anything more about it. i would love the team to sign him to a nice big OS just to piss off the Rags. they've already got a ton of cash tied up in 4 players and have Stepan and McDonagh up for big raises next year.

They also have around $16 million in cap space and there is only so much that you'd want to pay Del Zotto. The offer sheet concept only really makes sense with top players.
Your line about J-Bo being the Gomez of Dmen was hilarious!
I'm starting to wonder if Schenn ++ would have gotten us Weber. I know hindsight is 20/20, but trading JVR for L. Schenn might have been a bad idea. It makes both hard to trade (at least right now), and we all know Couturier is completely out of the question...
That said... if we didn't trade for Luke, we might have been able to put together a package around Schenn for Weber before the offer sheet and I would have been happy with that.
Giroux - Briere - Couturier down the middle, then you have Laughton and Cousins coming in the future for Briere's departure.
BTW Every other fan base HATES US right now!!!! East and West! Being a Flyers fan since 1985 I'm used to the hate/haters, but holy $%i7!!!If you're thin skinned don't go to other boards and read what they are saying!

It's not a higher cost than 4 picks. And you guys yourself got one of those players in return....Brayden Schenn. Rundblad was traded last season as well. His potential is more of an offensive dman compared to a Hamilton type 2-way but he was regarded as the best dman prospect outside of the NHL in the same yr where Schenn was considered the best fwd prospect outside the NHL.
I honestly feel though that unlike Kane or Benn or Ennis or whomever, PK Subban is actually worth offer-sheeting because you know he can be a no1 dman. It'll likely get matched but the point stands. I like John Carlson a lot and he's played at a top pairing level before but he hasn't had as many no1 dman games and just doesn't have Subban's potential.
Honestly, we really don't have many options. We have no assets worth much in the AHL and we don't want to trade our young talent...maybe something will come up a the trade deadline, and Enstrom at the next UFA.
I really don't think we are much of contender next season.
