he's dealt richards and carter away pretty easily............ I'm thinking something is coming down the pipe with this still
if nashville can get some of the bodies in the flyers system that is better than the first rounders they were gonna get, they'll be a better team and so will the flyers
The Predators are not allowed to trade him for the next year.

Weber can't be traded for one year and even then...after spending 26 million in a calender year I have a lot of trouble seeing Nashville trading him. Move on.

Did he not do that to himself by signing that offer sheet?

As a curiousity, what happens if there is a lock out that lasts the year and Nashville defaults on the contract?

Not wishing this to happen but it is possible.

edit2: Feel like I need to explain here, the Flyers aren't a bad team, far from that. But they aint a Cup contender by any means. Thats all Im saying.
I think insinuating that the Flyers have sunk so low that Shane Doan wouldn't consider playing for them is a bit....let's say "fatalistic".

I'm not arguing that they're better then last year. But I also think it's pretty foolish to act as if all teams progress in some linear fashion. With all the young guys taking large roles and Bryz being Bryz, it's possible for them to take a step forward without looking in July that they have more "talent". Teams far more talented then the 2010 group didn't make the Finals, for example. Some of the Flyers more talented teams got jacked up in Round 1.

There would be a new CBA in July 2013.

So who knows?

Unlikely, but...

Hope you enjoy our city, pack for heat. There is a healthy Czech population here - their niche is that a lot of them work as lifeguards or nannies. Nice people. Nashville is a 4 hour drive up the interstate. Tampa is 8 hours south.

If there is a lockout, players wouldn't get paid (salary) by anyone (IIRC, injured players were the exceptions during the last lockout). The bonus money, as structured in the OP, is a different matter but he's sitting pretty in any event.

Re: Vikings @ NFL Draft.

As I recall it: they were working on a trade, the time allotted for the draft pick eventually expired and by mandatory rule, they had to "pass." The next two teams took advantage and announced their selections. At that point, the discussed trade was never consummated and the Vikings announced their pick -- two picks after where it was originally scheduled.

You're confusing franchise value with how much money the owners actually have. Nashville has 8 owners, all of whom have lots and lots of money. The reason people were saying they can't afford it is because as a business decision it might not make sense, i.e. they won't make enough to make the Weber contract worth it. Doesn't mean they can't literally afford to pay him though.

Alright everyone, here's the plan. Put this on loop and watch till you're smiling and remembering that we only have to be reminded Shea Weber exists about one day per year.

Post secret: I would have done the Weber trade for Couturier and B Schenn.

Sure I would have loved to get a better deal... And thought for a while we could have forced a better one to keep one of those two... But I'd have done the one was on the table from the start.

I wish all this hadn't happened... because in the back of my mind I'm going to hold this against these two for the rest of their flyer lives. I think couturier will be every bit as good as we hope... And I'd still love to do this deal and get weber instead.

Brayden is now going to have to become all star / Olympic calibre (as well as Couturier) to make me not resent homer's choice.

Schenn's the player I suspect I'm going to hold this against for year's... Even though I now that not fair or rational.

Defense is simply way more important than offense. Norris calibre defenseman are rare. Weber is not only that, but likely the best of his generation.

Future measuring stick: In 2016 when Weber is captain of Team Canada at the Winter Olympics in S Korea, not doing this trade is okay if couturier and Schenn make that squad with Giroux (ideally over Richards and carter).

That happens, I'll gladly admit we were right not to trade. Anything less, and I'll resent Homer for it... (And now I suspect B Schenn as well.)

Today, I hate "potential".

Potential = pride.

My advice to homer... To paraphrase pulp fiction:
"The day of the trade, you may feel a slight sting. That's potential *****ing with you. ***** potential. Potential only hurts. It never helps. You fight through that ****."

Exactly. Snider/Comcast money couldn't get it done with Weber.

Everybody saying the flyers lost, tell me what we lost? We made a offer, they matched. That's how the game works. You don't better your team by sitting on your hands! It took balls to do what the flyers did! And for those who said we missed out on Nash, please, provide a link proving we were even after him. Most flyers fans didn't even want him. He's a overpaid pre Madonna! No thank you

Nothing in return???

If he stays in Nashville till the end of the contract, the return is 14 years of his play.

He came after Madonna. Her career started around 1984. That would make Nash, post Madonna.

Well, the money got it done, he did sign.

Anyway, don't be so sure...I'm thinking they will end up with 7 year limits, and then we will still offer big money for guys...but the cap hits will be higher. These contracts just won't exist anymore. We still "won" Briere back in the day with a pretty high contract....
