In the end I wasnt shocked. Good effort to land Weber.
Its a win/win for the Flyers. All those teams that were banking cap space to try and get Weber as a UFA next offseason oh well. dem the breaks
as far as the Flyers being blacklisted by all the other teams? bitter much?

Anyway, don't be so sure...I'm thinking they will end up with 7 year limits, and then we will still offer big money for guys...but the cap hits will be higher. These contracts just won't exist anymore. We still "won" Briere back in the day with a pretty high contract....
I wonder if he just used us to get the big money contract before the new CBA comes out. Homer may have been the only one willing to offer sheet him for this kind of money.

Going on what he has done in the past, he was probably bidding against himself.

Sure I would have loved to get a better deal... And thought for a while we could have forced a better one to keep one of those two... But I'd have done the one was on the table from the start.

I wish all this hadn't happened... because in the back of my mind I'm going to hold this against these two for the rest of their flyer lives. I think couturier will be every bit as good as we hope... And I'd still love to do this deal and get weber instead.

Brayden is now going to have to become all star / Olympic calibre (as well as Couturier) to make me not resent homer's choice.

Schenn's the player I suspect I'm going to hold this against for year's... Even though I now that not fair or rational.

Defense is simply way more important than offense. Norris calibre defenseman are rare. Weber is not only that, but likely the best of his generation.

Future measuring stick: In 2016 when Weber is captain of Team Canada at the Winter Olympics in S Korea, not doing this trade is okay if couturier and Schenn make that squad with Giroux (ideally over Richards and carter).

That happens, I'll gladly admit we were right not to trade. Anything less, and I'll resent Homer for it... (And now I suspect B Schenn as well.)

Today, I hate "potential".

Potential = pride.

My advice to homer... To paraphrase pulp fiction:
"The day of the trade, you may feel a slight sting. That's potential *****ing with you. ***** potential. Potential only hurts. It never helps. You fight through that ****."
Bold prediction: Weber, Schenn, and Couturier won't be at the 2016 olympics.

that is true. But Weber is worth 7.8 million per compared to some of the other contracts handed out. bonus money aside the offersheet is fairly easy to match

I don't think so, rumors abound that he's bummed. He's not going to be at the presser tomorrow. NSH may have their own Nash in two years...they need to get more talent.

Anyone hear the tsn radio interview with his agent? Doesn't sound like they are too pleased. Obviously getting that $13 mill signing bonus tomorrow won't be too bad. Still interesting to hear.

Unless they're competing in track and field, you've already lost that bet.

At least one good thing came out of the offer sheet. Mr Weber will have a tough time motivating himself, at the age of 36-40, to play one more season. Already a wealthy man he will then make small "metal" dollars instead of seldom seen high value paper.

So we're stuck with Luke Schenn as our "number one" defenseman for the next however many years. Anyone that thinks we can win a Cup like that is senile. We're easily the most cursed team in hockey and one of the most cursed teams in professional sports.

Hence why we went after a true number 1. It was a good move, shame Nashville really just had no other stars and was forced to save their franchise.

I'd like to get through most of the season as-is and see which teams are desperate at the deadline, because right now the options are crap.

Very cursed. The whole Lindros saga. Primeau finally emerging and delivering one good PO run before concussing himself out of existence. Trading for an injured Forsberg and having him break down very quickly. Grabbing Pronger and again, getting just one good PO run out of him before he breaks.

Very very hrd luck franchise.

Coburn as the #1. Schenn as a #3 or #4. How about this Coburn was drafted #8 overall in 2003, Weber #49 overall in 2003.

Hate to pop your cherry. Luke is not our number one today. Maybe in the future. I rank him 3rd /4th hoping he moves up.

If there's a lockout (full season), they'll need appx $20m in funds to get through the next year. That may very well be a death knell if the ownership doesn't/can't pony up. They're banking on no extended lockout, and increasing revenues by 10% over the next few years to pay for this contract... as a floor team, lol. If they want to compete, they probably have to get revenues up 15-20% or so, minimum.

It's a ***** but we have to move on. I feel bad for Weber, he really wanted to be here. I am just glad Homer did not give up the farm for him. I saw one package that he supposidly offered for Shea and Nashville passed and it was I think a fair offer. I am happy he did not give in and throw in Sean and the Schenn's in any package Nashville wanted.
