Teams that are locks to make playoffs:

New England
Baltimore
Pittsburgh
Houston

Teams that you can count out:

Cleveland
Miami
Indy
Jacksonville

West Teams:

Denver
San Diego
Kansas City
Oakland
(I expect only the division winner to make the playoffs)

Fighting for the 6 seed:

New York Jets
Buffalo
Tennessee
Cincy

Debating whether to go week one down here at jetLife. I think we lose, it's expensive, and I'd probably rather go to watch it with my father at his house in his Buffalo man cave in HD.

I disagree with Houston. Their defense will probably need some time to adjust to life without Super Mario.

They improved without Super Mario as the season went on. That young crop of defenders they have is incredible. Made Ryans and Williams expendable.

That seems reasonable. I do have serious questions with the Western teams besides Denver though. Palmer looked washed up and I realize he was working off a lot of rust but he's so immobile it's fair to think he could get exploited by the quick defenses in KC and Denver often. San Diego has seen its roster get depleted every year for the last 3 seasons. I don't think they can be more than 8-8 without revamping that defense. KC is talented but they have weak QB play which is a severe hindrance if they want to win 10 games.

Wheres Cincy??

Hou and NE are locks. BAL and PIT are not. But obviously someone has to win the North. Both have aging Defenses. Neither offense is stellar but their D's always seem to carry them. But they aren't as talented or flashy as NE or HOU.

Jets won't be fighting for anything but last in the Conference. Would swap them and Cincy.

Sorry Cincy would be fighting for 6th. Yes there are locks in every major sport. Cincy is vastly overrated. posting a 9-7 while winning 9 games against non playoff teams (oh and lets not forget that Stevie Johnson catch that was ruled not a catch).

In the AFC the locks are: Houston, NE, Bal, Pit
In the NFC the locks are: SF, GB (NO would be here if not for the coaching)
Never count the Jets out. If they can get pass the first five games with a winning record (Buf, @Pit, @Miami, San Fran, Houston) they could make the playoffs.

A misconception is Williams helped their defense improve last year...... when he got injured the team started getting better. If they can stay healthy the entire year they are Super Bowl Contenders..... but they won't.

I agree (As usual) with Takeo.
Is GB a lock if Rodgers has a season-ending injury before wk 1?
Is NE a lock if Brady is injured?

The coaching isn't why NO succeeds, it's Brees.

While I do agree with you that there are no locks, I also believe that there are teams that, if healthy, would be pretty hard to imagine not in the playoffs.

In the NFL, just about anything can happen. Even Cassell filling in for Brady and the Patriots not missing a beat has happened. The "Dream Team" Eagles last year were 8-8.

If you're a betting person, put your money on the likes of the Packers and Patriots but don't risk your life savings.

They still missed the playoffs that year

Which had nothing to do with them, going 11-5 and not making the playoffs is absurd.

Football injuries are mostly bad luck and accidents that have very little to do with a particular player's predisposition. The concept of being injury prone is mostly ********. "I'm not sure how you don't understand this."

There ARE certain types of injuries that keep recurring, allowing a player to be labelled as injury prone. But there are also more injuries which have nothing to do with a person and are just wrong place and time. Hasek's groin would be a good example of the former. Theismann's leg breaking in the Super Bowl would be a good example of the latter.

Agreed.

Wood's injuries appear more of the second variety. Kyle Williams was more of the first variety...but he also shut down early last season (when the playoffs were still very much in reach) to get it fixed right instead of just hoping it gets better where he can play through it, so hopefully it won't be as big a problem this season.

Yes.... did you watch Matt Flynn play last year? Yeah they'll be in
NE has Mallett...... yeah they'd be fine too.

All of the locks are taken into account that teams don't lose multiple players to season-ending injuries.

Drew Brees isn't the sole reason NO is successful. Peyton's offensive schemes are impressive and not having him for a season will hurt them (Atlanta could win the division).

People give way too much credit to QBs. The Broncos have Manning..... they should be a top 4 seed easy? Or are we looking pass their lack of receiver depth and a shotty running game that benefited greatly from Tebow or their defensive holes.

The Patriots got better on defense through the draft and added weapons with a easy schedule. Brady or not the Pats are in the playoffs.
