Did you read anything I said.

Players like Parise have captained their team, Led by example. They get paid what you believe they can bring to your team.

You don't hand 6 million dollars to a guy with questionable integrity.

He's pretty reliable defensively.

He is one of the most dangerous players in the league, and as a UFA, would come without giving up players. Then, when his contract runs out, it'll be right on time to sign Ryan as a UFA....

I liked the extra threat that Zherdev provided at times. Can you imagine our PP:

Timonen and Voracek on the points
Hartnell in front. Giroux on the halfboards on the left side, Semin working the give and gos with CG.

That could be very dangerous...
Why would semin accept 5mil a year?

Doan just got offered 4 @7

We gave Jagr a pretty high salary for someone with a poor relationship with 2 teams (who are both Atlantic division rivals) and who wasn't even in the NHL for a few years. There are exceptions to every rule. I'm willing to risk $7million for Semin on a 1 or 2 year deal.

Semin wants to be reliedupon in all situations. The thought of a PK PP and 1st line with Giroux and Semin is wonderful. I've wanted him since before free agency started, and if hes available for less then 7.5 a year hes worth it. I would keep the deal relativeley short term however. 2 or 3 years max, then go from there

He won't get $7M a year from a NHL team. If he wants to play in the NHL he'll have to take less.

In fact, if we're going by +/- (and +92 is a large enough sample for this statistic to be relevant), he actually excels at defense i don't think he'd end up in laviolette's doghouse, especially if he can pot 30 goals and get around 40 assists (which is a dead cert if he's playing on a line with giroux).

if briere still gets ice time with his defense, i don't know how semin wouldn't get as much, if not more ice time than briere.

This.

If Doan got that offer, it was from someone like the Isles for whom he will never play.

Semin might indeed go for a longer term guaranteed money, over a one year deal. I really don't think he wants to end up in Russia.

I might even offer him more, it depends on Doan, and on what other deals the Flyers are looking at. Ryan? Probably too pricy, let's just wait on him until he turns UFA and get him for nothing.

A Dman? Yandle? Bouwmeester? Someone else out there who can move the puck? Pity we didn't sign Carle, Yzerman seemed pretty happy with his catch on the radio yesterday...

I don't think we'll get Doan, but a lot depends on how good a friend he was with Briere, I guess, and whether he liked playing with Bryz. He stopped by during his royal tour, so it's not out of the question.

In the end, adding a dangerous player like Semin replaces Jagr's skill in the lineup, and he might really like playing with Giroux and Hartnell too.

It almost feels that as long as Semin is on a 1-3 year deal around 5 mil or so that he is a better option than Doan could be. I like Doan, but if Semin can rebound playing with G he could be one of the better signings of the offseason.

Why on earth would Semin take that large of a pay cut?

Semin will opt for obscene KHL riches before accepting a $5M AAV from an NHL team, that much appears to be obvious. Otherwise, he probably would've already signed.

i think a 1 year year deal at whatever he wants is worth the risk...worst case is he bombs but it's only 1 year, or he clicks with giroux and we have our franchise winger.

Semin would be better than Briere, Schenn, or Hartnell defensively--among our top-6 forwards. I know a lot of guys don't like him--and I'm not sure he'll be worth what he's likely to get paid--but he's a very good two-way player.

That's the problem. He probably wouldn't and will bolt for the KHL for more money. It all comes down to if he wants to play in the NHL or get paid in the KHL.

Find a video of him making a good/great defensive play on YT... that would be the definition of cherry-picking. I didn't cherry-pick the Carter goal, it was the first result for "Alex Semin defense" and everything on the first page was him scoring goals besides that video. Tells you what you need to know about his D... nonexistent and Briere-like (whack people with your stick) at best.

Be honest, how many Caps games have you watched in the past few years? How many did you watch during the second half of last year, when, under Hunter's charge, Semin was pretty easily their best forward?
