Amazing how things have changed, about a year ago Staal would have been in consideration and only one person has mentioned him so far.
Not sure if he would be considered our best player other than Lundqvist at this juncture, but I think some people are selling Staal short. With a full training camp under his belt, he may be as good as McDonagh this upcoming season.
when this happened...i was looking for a knife to slit my wrists...that's how important MCD is to this team. Gaborik, Nash, Cally, Staal, Girardi, they all belong in the conversation...but McDonagh, to me, is an absolute stud. When he becomes an RFA next year, im looking to lock his ass up to a lifetime contract. 15 years or somethign crazy like that. no desire whatsoever to see him in any jersey other than Rangers blue.
Am i the only one with an attention span longer than one season?
Staal>McD until a concusion free season proves otherwise
does everyone forget the "Is staal the best d-man in the game?" conversations we had before this last season?
And yes, it still applies. Staal is a tremendous defenseman. He was incredible in the post season. Saying McDonagh is better doesn't mean that Staals game has slipped at all. Saying McDonagh is better is just saying that...he's eclipsed Staal. McDonaghs got better offense, is a better skater, and is as good defensively as Staal. Staal is an elite defenseman. An all-star. a #1 defenseman on most teams in the NHL. Then again, so is Dan Girardi, and so is Ryan McDonagh. We have a frikkin amazing situation here with 3 #1 defenseman on this team. IMHO McD is the best of them. Elite in his own zone, and scored more even strength points in than Shea Weber.
McDonagh slightly over Staal for his game breaking skating ability. Staal is more physical. If McDonagh/Girardi can perform at the same level this season and Staal can continue his play from the playoffs you would be looking at 3 #1 defensemen on this team. Combine that with the return of a healthy Michael Sauer, this team could be devastatingly good.
