I would have been perfectly fine if he never said he'd be willing to be moved to a contender, and stayed with us all season. It's just so damn irritating that he said yeah, you can move me for prospects, and yeah the Braves are fine with me... Then to only say, nah, I changed my mind, when his stamp is needed to finalize a deal. A deal that would have been incredible for the Cubs no less.
Yeah, it definitely hurts that we were going to get Delgado. I mean, if that guy reaches max potential, he'll be a part of Cubs lore forever.
Had to make myself feel a little better, but check out how much money the Phils are locked into at the moment... and not exactly with young guys. All over 30, except for Hamels, who will be 35 by the time that deal is up. Will he hold up?
Hamels - 6 more years, $24M per year (going off average, exact breakdown not announced)
Halladay - $20M next 3 years, possibly option goes into place based off of IP and no DL stints for another year at $20M
Lee - 21.5M next year, then 25M, 25M, 25M, and 27.5M or 12.5M buyout
Papelbon - 13M, 13M, 13M, 13M option if he finishes, no saves, 55 games the prior year
Howard - 20M, 25M, 25M, 25M, 23M or 10M buyout
