Well, it is a game being played outdoors...

Misleading. A 3 on 3 tournament?? Sounds kind of fun. Reminds me of the old NHL Hitz days.

Not to derail this thread or hijack but this happened yesterday:

http://www.stargazette.com/article/2...text|FRONTPAGE

http://www.the-leader.com/features/x...perator?zc_p=0

(2nd article is a more informative read)

This came out of nowhere really. We were told that starting in October owners would be looked for. Not to mention the guys name had never been floating around as a possibility amongst circles.

I only brought it up because we are still looking for affiliates(or an affiliate) The previous owners were con artists. But now they are almost out of the picture. They won't be paying the bills. The only thing they will be paying are players(and they may not even own the team come the fall, still up in the air) But if i'm not mistaken guys on AHL/ECHL contracts are actually paid by the AHL team so the affect of these owners maybe not paying their guys out of spite wouldn't affect any guys sent from Rochester.

Drew Schiestel re-signed according to capgeek. Took a pay cut. No idea where he fits in right now.

It's not a pay cut, it's his qualifying offer.

(($591,666 - $66,666) * 110%) = $577,500.

Wow. That's a bit surprising. Wonder where he'd fit in Rochester now with Leduc and Pysyk added to the blue line there.

Considering they flipped him to another team to end the season, it's probably at the bottom of the depth chart and he'll have to fight for time. It'd be great if his knee issues are behind him, he was playing so damned well 18 months ago when the first injury happened.

Some Stars fans said he looked pretty good for the Texas Stars at the end of last season. Perhaps they had second thoughts about not qualifying Schiestel after they saw him there.

It would be nice if that injury were behind him. I really liked what I saw from him before that set him back.

I still think he could be a decent dman....just got derailed by the injuries, then got passed by a few other players.

That was Persson, but IIRC, Drew wasn't far behind on the depth chart. I think he'd be ahead of Brennan if he hadn't tweaked his knee.

Schiestel was actually ahead of MAG and Persson prior to the knee injury.

I think it's great that we re-signed Schiestel, zero-risk move and at the very least he will be a solid player for the Amerks, probably even a pretty good one and one of the more experienced guys on their blue-line. Remember that he was an AHL All-Star not too long ago.

Met Schiestel a couple years ago and got his autograph.

I wonder if there's any way we loan him to another team again. Surprising to see him accept the QO.

He still has a ways to go to get back to being a solid AHLer from what I saw last year. If he can put it together again, great. If not, he's probably looking at some time in the ECHL or riding the pine until injury/recall open a spot for him.

I guess I'm confused by this. What other definite options did he have? I doubt, given his recent play, that there were a lot of teams wanting him. Maybe on an AHL contract or in Europe. He's in a similar boat as Persson in regards to North American opportunities.

I remember reading that if he was Stars property he would have been called up by them last season.

Any more scuttlebutt on a vet for the Amerks? Anyone laying in any vegan groceries?

Perhaps they work a deal with the Stars then. When he was well, he was using his speed to pressure the puck carrier defensively, then turning things quickly on the counter-attack. Hopefully he's got his legs back, since that was his most dynamic skill and separated him from the pack as it were. He tweaked the other knee at the start of last year and when he came back, it looked like he was having confidence issues.

As for the loan, usually the guy gets dealt. Granted, Amerk fans may recall one of the better loan arrangements in AHL history -- the Caps lent them Ollie Kolzig and he backstopped the Amerks to a Calder Cup final. The Caps decided they had something there and the next year he was in DC. (Not saying Schiestel is going to make the Sabres or anything outlandish, just that it isn't unheard of for a guy to go on loan and then return to his former team. Rare, but not unheard of.)

We definitely will have some openings on our blue line by next season. Regehr, Leopold and Sulzer's contracts all expire. I'd guess we re-sign at least one of them, but if Scheistel's healthy, he could definitely put himself in the mix with McNabb, Pysyk, Brennan to compete for a vacant roster spot.

Don't forget Gauthier-Leduc, Finley, and even MacKenzie. A lot can happen in a year.
