Tuzzolino signs one-year deal to return to Heat

Wolves Agree to Terms with Brad Hunt

Rampage Sign Vaive and Birkholz to AHL Deals

It sounds like Alex Carrier has signed a two years deal with the Albany Devils
editionbeauce.com/nouvelles/sports/19198/alexandre-carrier-sentend-avec-les-devils.php&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.editionbeauce.com/nouvelles/sports/19198/alexandre-carrier-sentend-avec-les-devils.php%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26biw%3D1517%26b ih%3D687%26prmd%3Dimvns&sa=X&ei=SEkQUIu4NoLp0g

The original version in French says that he has signed with the Devils' organisation. However at 21, he is too young to apply for a two years entry-level contract.

Also, his tweeter description says : Hockey player recently signed with the organisation of New-Jersey Devils.

I'll leave it as a rumor for now, hopefully Albany or New Jersey will issue a confirmation soon.

EDIT : Got a confirmation from Carrier himself on Twitter that it's an AHL contract.

It was a 2 year deal with Chicago but to guarantee he signed with Chicago over another team, the Canucks had to give him a 2 way NHL contract for the 1st year. Thats what I presume, because when it was announced it was announced as a 2 year deal 1st year being a NHL 2 way contract and the second year being only an AHL contract

Hershey Bears sign G Sergei Kostenko to an AHL deal. Kostenko, 19, was the Washington Capitals' seventh round chohice (203rd overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

It's quite unsual to see a young russian leaving Russia to sign an AHL contract.

Not sure where he'll play! Caps already have Sabourin, Grubauer and Anderson.

Also Springfield signed Mike Clemente and Wade MacLeod

Everett recently acquired Anderson's WHL rights so my guess is he'll head back to the Dub for his overage season.

Kostenko: Sorry this is a lengthy post, but since people are discussing it here:

1) Obviously, requires both sides to agree, but he can be paid more this season doing it this way with an AHL contract vs an NHL contract; no max salary in AHL PHPA CBA, only min. salary.

2) If he signed an NHL ELC and didn’t play 10 NHL games, his contract would have slid, so it would be like signing a 4 year ELC if he signed this year (3 years plus add one.) So while some ELCs are being signed now to try to avoid what might happen in the future with the NHL proposal making ELCs longer, I think for this player in this situation there's some rationale for this approach.

3) He can still sign a Caps ELC during the season if there's a reason to do so. This way, for now, it’s only a one year commitment and as I noted the salary issue above. Caps still hold his rights via the draft.

4) It's an AHL contract but can play in AHL-ECHL.

I assume Kostenko will start the season in Reading/ECHL to start; learn Engllish, adjust to NA rinks, get coaching from Kolzig/Prior, etc. He played in the MHL last season.

Note, this is assuming Grubauer’s on schedule in his recovery from wrist surgery; no reason to believe otherwise, just a note. Also, things could change a bit if there’s a delay to the NHL season and the possibility of Holtby starting the season in Hershey in that case, but most assume the following:

NHL: Holtby and Neuvirth
AHL: Grubauer and Sabourin
ECHL: Kostenko and Anderson?

Personally, I’ve wondered even before the news of the last week if the Caps thought Anderson was ready to turn pro. He’s eligible to play an overage season in the WHL. Many signs indicated that Brandon didn’t want or expect him back (and they don’t need him with Boes and company), so the WHL trade wasn't surprising. Also, it may be an indication that Prior/Kolzig/McPhee don’t think he’s ready to play pro hockey even at the ECHL level and he needs to find a place to play hockey in the WHL as an overager, but so far the comments out of Everett don't make it sound like they had any inside information. Plus, the trade was conditional, Anderson if he is assigned there by the Caps OR a 5th round pick, so obviously Everett gets an asset from Brandon WK either way.

Back to Kostenko and all the goalie competition, obviously it will play out during camp and the season, but I assume he will start in the ECHL.

The Checkers added depth to an already deep position on Monday, locking up center David Rutherford to a two-way contract.

Rutherford, 25, spent all of last season with the Checkers’ ECHL affiliate in Florida, where he led the team with 25 goals in 57 games. He also chipped in 30 assists, making him third on the team with 55 points behind Matt Beca and Scott Pitt, who both saw time in Charlotte last season.

The Chicago Wolves have signed center Taylor Matson.

MATSON tallied 2 points (G, A) in five regular-season games with the Wolves last year after being signed by the team to an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) on April 7, 2012. He also appeared in all five of Chicago’s Calder Cup postseason tilts, accruing an assist and 4 penalty minutes.

What was first? Attending the Canucks development and impressing enough for an AHL contract or impressing enough in the QMJHL and being invited to the camp with a possibility for an AHL contract.

Well he was Columbus property up until June 1st of this past year, during which he won goalie of the year, so I'd say the QMJHL play came first.

So the Heat have 2 goalies signed to AHL contracts? Who do the Flames call up in case of injury and where will they play?

It'll be interesting to see how the Flames manage their goaltending situation. Irving and Karlsson will battle for the backup spot in Calgary. I think that Irving has the edge. Calgary surely don't want to loose him on waivers or trade him for little value. Karlsson will likely be traded or loaned to a european team. He could also end up in the AHL but I'm not sure that he wants to play there.

If they plan to have a Brust-Taylor duo in Abbotsford then one or even both of them should sign an NHL contract.

Calgary also has Joni Ortio under contract but he is expected to play the season in Finland.
---------------------------------

Also, for those wondering, if Hetényi plays in the AHL, he won't be the first hungarian to do so. Janos Vas, Levente Szuper and Daniel Koger all accomplished the feat before him. Levente Szuper was arguably the most successful among them. He played 115 games in the AHL between 2000 and 2004. He even was called up by the Calgary Flames and dressed for 9 games, however he didn't got the chance to play.
