I'm not against Colaiacovo as much as some, but don't you want Cole to play full-time? I know I do.

Hard to like a player made of glass.

Imagine how he would look playing for the Wild, who have one of the thinnest defenses in the league.

But he's completely over his head as a top pairing defenseman in the NHL. The Blues simply picked the best option out of Russell, Huskins (oft-injured as well), and Jackman. Cole, to date, hasn't gotten the seasoning he needed to play big minutes.
That's exactly what I mean. The guy isn't a legit top-pairing D-man, but I think he's definitely a #3-#4.

I'd say he is a #4, as he shouldn't be the player that you rely on in the pairing.

Gotta say, I didn't realize how bad Minnesota's D was. I think he could play on the middle pair if needed, but it's not where he'll flourish.

Yes, I do... but there's no reason why that cannot happen and the Blues keep Colaiacovo around as an insurance policy. No one's lining up to offer him big money, so if the Blues come back with an offer of something like $5MM over three years, I can't see him turning it down.

It's not that tough to healthy scratch a $1.66MM cap hit, and Colaiacovo can help in a limited role (no higher than second pairing) when the Blues are inevitably bitten by the midseason injury bug.

Alright, I can understand that. I just don't see Colaiacovo accepting that type of role with us or anywhere else.

The further from July 1st we get, the more likely it is IMO. That's why I started the thread on the Blues board.

At the right price, I'd take him back. Better the devil you know, than the one you don't. Obviously an upgrade would be the best choice.

Does he wear the jersey in the pressbox?

I'm just assuming he's injured most of the season...

The blues tried Jackman on the top pair and it was a role he wasn't suited for. He didnt do very well. The blues communities response was "HE SUCKS AND I NEVER WANT TO SEE HIM AGAIN!"

Coco is a second pair offensive defenseman. If you expect shutdown defense and mistake free play I dont know what to tell you. Put him in the role hes suited for and he will do very well. He will sign for cheap but he will also be hurt for 15-20 games, its a tradeoff. He is better than Russel and would probably be a better partner for Polak but with the situation what it is, its time to move on.

He can be.
Some times though (late this past season and on in to the playoffs) he is barely even a third pairing defenseman.

Now that you mention it, he does cut a good figure when wearing a nice suit in the pressbox.

If Carlo is in your top 4, then you have major issues on your back end. He's a bottom pairing defenseman that has some offensive upside, but stinks defensively and is often injured. When he gets beat (which is often), instead of hustling to get back, he just dives and swats at the puck. It happens at least a couple times a game and it drives me crazy.

Also, the guy has a soft mellon. He should be walking around with a helmet all the time like Phillip from the SNL skit. He's always a love tap away from getting concussed.
