Jamie McBain to Philly

Just wanted to know if McBain is available, and if he is what would you be looking for in a deal. Also please leave Couturier and Schenn out of it. Holmgren wouldn't give them in a Weber deal, so he certainly wouldn't move either of them for McBain regardless of the amount of add-ons.

yeah I honestly think a deal was more likely while Philly still had JVR. That said, definitely can see the Canes being interested in either Voracek or Simmonds

I doubt the Flyers would move either, but I'd guess Voracek would be more available of the 2. Voracek is expected to be on our first line this year so I don't know. Though there's no way it'd be a straight 1-for-1 swap. Something else worthwhile would have to come with McBain to even consider moving Voracek.

I was thinking something more along the lines of Read + Bourdon and maybe a pick.

That's ok, maybe there's just not a deal to be made at this point. But Simmonds and Voracek are both younger and more accomplished then McBain so there's no way that a 1-for-1 trade could work.

Did you have anybody in mind that you think could help the Hurricanes roster at this point? It doesn't seem like the Flyers would be willing to part with NHL ready depth or players in order to pick up McBain.

What are the Hurricanes primary needs right now? How do you guys view McBain right now? I see him as a good young puck-moving defenseman who could wind up as a #3-4, but isn't there yet. Basically I saw that you guys had a ton of PMD's on your roster, and Murphy on the way. So my original thought was something like Matt Read (middle 6 forward who plays PP and PK) and Marc-Andre Bourdon (young physical #5-6 defenseman). But if you guys think Carolina would hold out for Simmonds or Voracek, there probably isn't a deal to be made.

Seems like some of the negative opinions about McBain around here lately are coming home to roost.

Honestly, McBain is better than the criticisms, but he's not worth a Simmonds on his own. Would probably take a small package, something like McBain+Tlusty for Simmonds+stay at home D prospect.

I think a #3-4 dman is worth a 2nd-third liner.

But the problem is that it doesn't seem that the Flyers want to give up anything in a 1-1 swap. So I don't think we are good trading partners.

Simmonds is the prototypical Flyer, he's probably less available than Voracek and I don't think the Flyers would trade Jake for McBain + 3rd. There may not be a deal to be made here.

If the deal doesn't have Read, Simmonds or Voracek there's really no reason for us to move McBain to the Flyers. Of course we would have to add for guys like Voracek or Simmonds but I don't see us being interested in anything else on the Flyers. Philly's picks and prospects available aren't enticing at all.

I think Carolina would be really happy to get a Matt Read level player back for McBain if he were available. He took an unconventional path, but Read is a hell of a player. I think the value is pretty close there too.

If Carolina were head towards the season and discover that McBain was made somewhat expendable by our PMD depth, which isn't out of the realm of reasonable, I would welcome a move for Read. It really depends on how Ryan Murphy shows up.

This was basically my original line of thinking when I started this thread. Obviously Faulk and Murphy are your future on defense, which makes McBain expendable (not to diminish his value, good player but not as good as Faulk or Murphy).

As for Read, he's a real good player who's fast, can score, plays in all phases of the game, and can play all 3 forward positions, not to mention carries a $900,000 cap hit for 2 more years. The only negative on him is the fact that he's already 25.

Yeah I'm a big Matt Read fan also, ever since seeing him lead freaking Bemidji State to the Frozen Four a couple of years ago. Flyers fans love him too though. Wouldn't doubt if they said he was on their list of untouchables (which oddly seems to include any valuable asset they might have). But Read for McBain is fair value.

While us Flyers fans do love Read, he's not untouchable for the right deal. I believe most Flyers fans would jump on a Read for McBain swap due to our need of a PMD.

Read for McBain would be a fair trade.

I guess I disagree with most (what else is new!) in saying I like McBain and I want to see him remain a Cane.

I think he is going to have a great season. If not, move him next offseason.
