As most of you are probably aware, Jordan Staal was signed to a 10 year, 60 million dollar contract with a flat rate of 6 million a year- a steal for a "top 15 player". This deal takes Jordan to age 33, and makes him the de facto franchise player after Eric.
My question to you is: should we offer Skinner a similar 10 year, 60 million dollar contract before the CBA creates such long contracts illegal?
Calder Trophy winner, one of 6 players after the lockout to score 50 before 20th birthday, one of few players to score 30 as an 18 year old. Is just coming off of a season riddled with concussions after playing at a 40 goal pace for the first 30~ games of the year.
No, because he's not anywhere near as good as Jordan and never will be.
Dumb reason not to sign him. You see a wealth of top-6 players on our roster?

I agree. Lock up Skinner now, we really can't afford not to. We have a chance to do something this year, with the addition of Jordan Staal.
We don't need uncertainty with another one of our core players. We don't need a disgruntled Skinner, we don't need any distractions.
Lock him up and move forward. With Eric being motivated (hopefully) for the entire season, Jordan coming aboard, what I predict will be a breakout year for Jiri (I say 30 goals), and Skinner signed long-term, we can maybe go on a run here.
If not, next year we sign another top-6 player and reload, try again.
We don't have the luxury of toying around with Skinner and his contract. Just get it done.
I agree with this. I think he earns a Staal11 kind of contract only with continued production, but not before proving that. If he doesn't, then I think he can be signed for significantly less next off-season.
