After much consideration, I've also determined that our two write-in targets should be our own Vinny Prospal and previously our own Rostislav Klesla. I've gone into some detail about Klesla previously. Prospal's qualifications are as follows.
1) He plays for us, has 1,000 career games, and has never been an All-Star
More details to follow, of course. Just trust me when I say there will be some serious behind-the-scenes work. Right now, I'm figuring out what the probably benchmarks are for votes for a write-in candidate, and I think we stand a better chance than the "Vote for Rory" campaign.
I'm with you 100% on this Mayor. I've been a fan of Vinny since 1996, and I'd love to see him in the ASG.

Can't see Columbus having enough fans who care enough to stuff the ballot boxes. Ottawa is Canada where hockey is a religion. Buckeye football is the religion here. While there may be a strong hockey contingent here, it's not large enough to have any impact with enough votes to put anyone on the All Star team. Only way any Cbus player makes it is if the NHL names one so the hosting team isn't embarrassed.
Complicated question Moo.... to many ifs and what’s...
That said I doubt Nash will in the ASG based on the new environment he is in, easy street is over... I could be wrong though, it's up to Nash.
The Jackets will have a player in the ASG but I don't know whom yet, he will not be captain.
I wouldn't count on Nash making the ASG just yet. Based on the discussion on the mains before the trade, he is probably only the 5th or 6th best Ranger, and I don't think one team will get that many players.

Just tell all of Columbus that Umberger is a Buckeye. He'll be the leading vote getter.
I actually considered that as a real strategy. It may yet be implemented.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
Here's my early vote for board avatars for this year kind of like a hope thing. Each user picks something to put in that image and you write it's name underneath like so. Whether it be player mascot or unliked reporter

In my opinion the NHL All Star game is a farce and should be reclassified as an exhibition by some pretty good hockey players and some guys who get in because the fans stuffed the ballot box. Anything resembling NHL hockey will be purely coincidental.
Hopefully, if they haven't already done so, the NFL bags the Pro Bowl.
The NBA All-Star game is nothing more than playground ball with no attempt on defense.
I guess ALL-Star games are ok for those who enjoy them, but to me I could care less.
And I get it, that with today's salaries no player wants to be hurt or hurt another in a meaningless exhibition.
Agree across the board about the games themselves, EK. None of the leagues have a legit contest. Even baseball, where the outcome has a pretty significant impact on the season.
Still, it's a tradition I like and I hope it doesn't go away. It's sort of like the state fair in any state. At this point pure ceremony (well okay, not really, but not as galvanizing as in the past, due to decreasing agriculture), but still significant.
Ballot box stuffing contributes to the irrelevance of the ASG, though. Let's see if anyone plays well enough to earn it?
Having said that, totally OT I know, but the only reuse of that I liked was the only in Megamind, after he took over Metrocity. I think it was Megamind with "No you can't". Hilarious.
Although I will have to say your Boomer one was pretty funny.
Yeah, so I'm not really sure what can be added to this thread. I've got nothing new.

Hmf. I was hoping to go for an "Island of Misfit Toys" theme for avatars this year.
