It is very reassuring to hear management say we have the money to fill holes in our roster.
I think adding a top 4 d man will be great. Adding Doan seems more likely than I originally thought. That would be fantastic.
Yandle and Jbo would be my first picks, but I would take a couple other options as well.
If we could add Doan and Yandle, folks this team would not miss a gear from the last two years. Interesting to see if Doan and Yandle could be a package deal to the right team.
I haven't listened to the conference call yet but was following it on Twitter, and it sounded like Weber's response about his agents was pretty unsatisfying: basically that what they said must just be how they feel because he had nothing to do with it.
Really bro? Those dudes are your EMPLOYEES. Their job is to represent you, and you pay them...a LOT...to do it. You can't let them run amok on the radio making you look bad then just shrug and be like "I wasn't involved in that". That's some ****ing weak sauce right there.
Obviously what his agents said on the radio reflects how Shea really feels, because if it didn't he would've gotten pissed and fired them by now. And let me be clear, it did hurt to hear those comments from his agents, but I'm not MAD about Shea's feelings themselves. I'm mad that his agents thought it was appropriate to air them on the radio as a means to pressure us not to match, and I'm mad that Shea apparently thinks that's acceptable behavior as well since he hasn't fired them or even spoken out strongly against them.
Honestly I'm more mad at his agents than anyone else in this whole scenario. They are total d-bags. I wish I knew how to contact them personally to tell them so.
Bosquet's playing bio on Titan's page is pure excrement. He claims to have played at "all levels professionally and internationally" when his only professional play was in a third tier German league.
Part of me wants to buy one of his gamers and burn it ... but it isn't worth the $100.
I'm with you TMI... now we're a team that is losing players left and right if you believe some fans around the league. Yet we've lost only Suter.
Quebec Here We Come!
I personally think the current ownership ensured the Preds will be in Nashville for decades with this move, regardless of financial dips that may come. The NHL certainly appreciates seeing a non-traditional step up to the bullying of the Flyers. Based on what we see happening with the Coyotes, I imagine Bettman and his successor (whether it be Daly or someone else) will do everything he can to keep the team in Nashville because of this move, no matter what happens.

sorry, it's business. I don't think he feels anything of the sort.
if it's good for the league, Bettman will do it.
Congrats that the preds matched this offer sheet. Im glad that you guys get to hang onto one of the best defensmen in the league after already losing suter.
******* is it hard to correct fans from across the league who would rather continue believing ******** so long as it fits their idea of how things really are instead of actually becoming informed.
I feel like a punching bag right now, only a punching bag that is smarter than the people hitting it.
Haha, out of morbid curiosity I visited the Philly boards and definitely some people grasping at straws wanting to believe that Nashville is Phoenix-lite and this will push you guys over the cliff. I've tried politely pushing back with some facts and they're not sooooo bad.

No NTC/NMC whatsoever. This is the only insurance Nashville has now. Nashville has the leverage, let Weber sit out the season if he won't sign without them, if Weber flakes out then at least Nashville can offer him to 29 other teams with a good chunk of his salary paid for, and you guys will walk away like bandits.
Up to now I've defended Poile, but if Weber gets a NTC/NMC in his contract, then that's inexcusable.

Yeah, it's the agents more than Weber, Poile or, Snider Holmgren that I think come out of this looking like idiots.
It's not like Poile will need to negotiate another deal with Weber after this, I'd be tempted to publicly throw the agents under the bus. "Shea's a big part of our team and has always been a class act, despite some bewildering and unprofessional comments by his agents which do not serve their client well".
Hit them where it hurts, with the reputation of their company in front of the league/players.
Weber, Trotz, Poile all mention Doan as a target. Now that is interesting. Trotz says they want another top 4 d man (poile says patience) Weber says he would like to see more pieces added.
I think a top 4 d man is a must. Hopefully happens. I truly believe Philly was Weber's first choice, but staying in Nashville wasn't a problem to him. Not his first choice but a decent option. I do think he is going to have BIG questions to answer regarding his agents.
disagree.... Weber was honestly shocked(and likely pissed) that Suter didnt sign with us... thats someone who was planning on staying, not someone looking to leave.
I think Weber preferred Nashville but would accept Philly if Nashville was not going to pay him...
Firstly, these two agents of Weber's are **********. I imagine they would have loved for Weber to go to Philly as it would be a huge move (win in their eyes) for Titan Sports. They likely see Philly's market size as more likely to bring endorsement deals and exposure to their top client.
I'll give Weber the benefit of the doubt for now after going to the presser downtown today and listening to Weber's conference call. We'll see what it brings.
Again, want to praise W. Brett Wilson's frankness in his interview last night with Fan 590.
Hey guys, congrats again on the Preds matching for Weber!
For your guy's sake, I hope Poile has learned his lessen from this and will make sure any future situation with a player of his caliber, he will be a bit more pro-active in getting a contract done instead of just taking things on faith that said player will sign within his defined parameters.
That's ultimately what I think forced Weber's hand in going to get the offer sheet. Not because he wanted out, but because he wanted a contract a player of his caliber would have received on the open market. Obviously under current CBA rules that meant a retirement deal with large upfront bonuses.
Glad you guys got him, and glad you guys will be good for years to come! Hope to see you guys in the playoffs!

Hmm...that's resume fraud. I wonder if that could get him de-certified as an agent.

It's not resume fraud when it's not on a resume .... it's on a webpage. If only the truth were allowed on the internet there'd be no online chats or tennessean.com.

I'm e-mailing that ******. Will let you all know if he sends me a douchey reply.

This. Why hasn't anyone done this?! I feel like they're totally getting away with being *******s. Honestly I'm really disappointed in Weber for not coming out strongly against them, or (better yet), firing them.
P.S.
Looking at their website...Toots is represented by them?! Whaaat?
how many people made it out today? would have loved to.. but darn work...
I'd guess 150 to 200 ...
Think more would have been there had it not been <24 hour from the announcement of the MATCH. Little time to plan and a work day for most. I had the flexibility so I drove in from Murfreesboro last minute ... barely made the start.
Had I known it was going to be that short and OUTSIDE on the plaza (it was freaking HOT), I probably would have stayed at work and watched online. But I wanted to show my support as I've missed very few of these type events all the way back to the visit by the Board of Governors and the logo unveiling.
Alright, I am double posting, but holy ****ing ****. Listen to TSN Radio Toronto 1050, the interview with Kevin Epp.
I am stunned. While I am unsure about Weber's actual thoughts, he has left a bit of a mark on me with the way things have gone down, especially with his decisions on who represents him. I maintain that Philly was Weber's first choice but is happy with Nashville as long as he has his huge ass contract.
3 good interviews here ... scroll down for the Poile interview on Toronto radio Fan 590 ... further down for Weber/Trotz conference call ... further down for the awesome W. Brett Wilson interview.
Listening to the Weber/Trotz call...Weber said they just utilized the CBA as it is now and it worked out great. To me, that says that after it didn't work out with him and Suter signing together he was going to sign an offer sheet for any team that gave him the biggest contract to see how committed ownership really was. Which is why he was visiting other teams. And with Weber saying he knew all along the Preds intended to match any offer sheet, Weber just signed the biggest/best one and said OK Preds here you go match it for me. He got the monster pay day, sees the commitment from the team now and going forward (and in Weber's own words "is exactly what we wanted") and he stays in Nashville in a place he loves.
