I guess he liked the Flyers offer more than the 29 others teams .

This would be a fair deal if he was an UFA, but he wasn't. Sherman would get him signed for less.

That's is part of the problem with the contracts that are being handed out these days. It should be based on what a player has done, not what he could potentially do.

This would be a bed, not terrible, but bad contract.

Agreed. I'll toss in Colin Wilson as a comparable too - signed for 3 years, 2 million per this week.

Why does everyone have to label every contract as "horrible overpayment" or "total steal". Why can't people just admit that some contracts are fair market value that should work out for both sides.

Carter, Richards, JVR -- all sign long term deals and are dealt. Vorechek will be next. There is no love for him in Philly.

Yes the GM who gave David Jones $4M would definitely have gotten him signed for less, good call.

Cap percentage is a very telling column that people love to ignore.

Right, because 3 35 point seasons is the same as 3 45-50 point seasons.

THat's rare, but a great deal for him. Voracek deal is typical. Did you see how cheap we got Giroux for? good deals happen.

Jones is one year removed from scoring 27 goals, he has another 20 goal season and he's a good two way player. He was also an UFA when he signed his contract, but I guess that this whole UFA vs RFA contract bussines isn't all that familiar to you.

And please check out what Avs RFA's got this year.

When making cap scenarios with other buddies, we always had him in the 4-4.5m range so this just confirms we're geniuses.

Good player. Good contract. Now let's just work on that shot.

Jake is better than or at least similar to all of these guys who all a comparable cap hit. Some of these guys signed a couple years ago when $4.25m was a lot higher of a percentage of the cap too. Not to mention Jake is significantly younger than everyone but JvR.

Booth- 6 years $4.25M
JvR- 6 years $4.25m
Callahan- 3 years $4.275m
Dubinsky- 4 years $4.2m
Fisher- 5 years $4.2m
Ladd- 5 years $4.4m
Versteeg- 4 years $4.4m

This isn't ****ing 2006. The cap has almost doubled. These kinds of players are now worth 4-5 million dollars.

I suspect just like all other threads where people claim someone is ridiculously overpaid/will be ridiculously overpaid and I ask this question, I won't get any answers.

EDIT: I realize UkraineTrain may have meant 2M total, not 2M on the cap hit. If so, same challenge... you're unlikely to find somone with his stats, age and potential who has recently agreed to a multi-year deal with a 3.75M cap hit.
Yes, I've meant 2M total. David Perron 15.25M total/3.8M cap hit.

Thanks.

I'm just saying he got more that I tought he would, you rarely see RFA's who didn't score 20 goals in their career get 4+ mil because they have almost no leverage in contract negotiations.

I think it's a little pricey for Voracek since they seem to be paying him based on his postseason performance (10 points in 11 games) rather than the regular season (49 points in 78 games), but if he breaks out this year playing with Hartsy and G on the top line then the contract will end up being very favorable to the Flyers.

Voracek is a really fun player to watch, and have on your team.

He works really hard (was surprised by how good his 2-way effort was last year) and man, can he really fly down the wing.

Bought a year off the contract. I personally think its a nice contract compared to some comparables.

Actually it is. Voracek's contract takes him in to UFA. But since I have such a misunderstanding of this, show me the gross discreprancy between Voracek's contract and other RFA contracts, especially those that take you in to UFA.

Duchene's contract is great though, I'll give you that. That said, he has an RFA contract left... let's see what he gets on that one. I am thinking a good amount more than Voracek, assuming the same CBA.

62 games played in the last two seasons. He's easily over 4M if he is healthy with 50 point seasons the last two years, or is around 65-70 points for a full 82 games.
